Weekend Getaway: One Tagaytay Place

I decided to make a quick getaway to Tagaytay. Well, I think it was just timely since we have been working (and I doing sideline work on top of my regular job) for the past 6 months. We were blessed with a one night stay One Tagaytay Place voucher which we planned to use supposedly on July 4th weekend. But unfortunately the voucher can't be used on weekends, so we thought what the heck, we'll just use it on a Monday and just apply for a vacation leave from work. We were both fine with it, because you know how Mondays can be dreading for people like us who work on night shift. This is because coming from a weekend where we can sleep like normal people at night, during Mondays it gets pretty hard for us to sleep at noon in preparation for our work at night, and we usually don't get a proper sleep even if we desperately try hard to. I've been in this industry for more than 5 years and I'm still not used to it, I'm still wondering why...

So on a Monday morning we drove all the way up to Tagaytay after passing by BGC to do an errand at Ford Global for our car Ticoy. It was surprising that SLEX was not congested which made our trek up to Tagaytay super fast.

One Tagaytay Place is located at 445 Tagaytay-Calamba Road, Barrio Sungay West, Tagaytay City  and since we've stayed  here before in 2012 we already know our way to get to it. The main hotel is in a compound and in front of that is a building which houses a 7-11, a bank and their function hall.

This was not our first stay at One Tagaytay Place because we have already stayed there last November 2012 for my birthday. There wasn't much new in One Tagaytay Place since 2012. We went through the same fast check-in but since we arrived earlier than the check-in hour this time around, I was surprised that they allowed us to go to our room asap. We were planning to just check in and leave our bags there and have lunch somewhere then go back later.

The Room
We booked a Deluxe Double Room again, but this time the room that was given to us was facing the street and the front building which houses their function rooms and we had no relaxing view compared to the room where we stayed back in 2012, where our  balcony view is a quiet and lush subdivision.

Deluxe Double Room is around 26sqm with Queen size bed and Sofa, which to me is kinda small and all the necessary amenities were cramped up inside this small space. We paid around the same price at Lee Boutique Hotel last year which is the same published rate for this Deluxe Room in One Tagaytay Place but the room is pretty huge unlike this one. (You can read about my review of Lee Boutique Hotel here: Cool January Tagaytay Breeze: Lee Boutique Hotel Review)

The same amenities were present: Bible, safety deposit box, closet, a lounge sofa, ottoman, a coffee table, dresser, coffee making facility, PABX phone, writing sets, personal ref  and  a small wall-mounted cable LCD TV.

There were lots of storage spaces and areas where you can store your belongings. inside the closet were two bath robes and two disposable bedroom slippers, although there were no bathroom slippers inside the CR. The electric pot in our room was also busted and I had to call housekeeping to have it replaced. Hairdryer will also be given upon request.

Let's talk about the bed, well the bed was ok, I can't compare it with other beds in 5-star hotels because I haven't stayed in one just yet. I'm a sucker for pillows and I just wish that hotels would put more pillows in their beds, especially the super fluffy ones, then I'll probably forget all that a hotel lacks if they'll do that! hehehe...

My favorite part in the room was the love seat/sofa, I love the texture of the cloth used to upholster it. When we went back to the hotel after having late lunch at Pamana, checking out the SkyRanch and chilling out in the new Starbucks beside Discovery Country Suites, we relaxed a bit before taking a shower and sleeping; I stayed on the couch, took selfies (which I dont usually do btw, hehe), browsed through my social media using the hotel's free wifi.

All in all the room was cozy enough (even if it was a little small) and it had a balcony where we  enjoyed the cool and foggy Tagaytay morning the following day while we sip on the 3-in-1 coffee that came with our accommodation.

The Comfort Room
Like the room the CR was a little small for hotel standards (well for me), but we were ok with it as long as it's clean; and fortunately enough it was clean. Although the lighting was kinda dim, but I guess it's part of the idea of the hotel for achieving cozyness.

The bathroom came with the basic amenities: toothbrush, toothpaste, q-tips, shampoo, soap, floor towel, bath towels and hand towels. There is also a bidet and hot/cold shower.

The Pool
Not may Tagaytay hotels have pools because it is often cold in Tagaytay that swimming isn't a very nice idea. But One Tagaytay Place takes pride of their infinity pool which is found a floor beneath the Penthouse. We wanted to take advantage of every amenities so even if it was kinda cold that morning and the pool is not heated btw; we decide to take a quick dip.

The first time we were here, there were not many guests swimming, but this time around we were not the only ones enjoying the pool but with two other families.

The Azalea Restaurant
Azalea Restaurant is the in house restaurant of One Tagaytay Place. It is located at the ground floor near the lobby. It is a small place though and houses only a couple of tables. Our voucher came with only set breakfasts and I forgot to take a photo of what we've ordered. But the good thing about it is that it came with free brewed coffee or hot chocolate & fresh fruits as appetizers. We were asked if we wanted to upgrade it to a buffet breakfast by adding around PHP 300, but since we were not so hungry, we politely declined.

If you're availing of the published rates, it is more likely that it will come with a free buffet breakfast. below is the photo of what they serve in their buffet breakfast, this was taken during our stay here in November 2012.

Even though it was just a set breakfast, the serving was large enough to fill our huge appetite that we didn't  have to order another cup of rice (hehe).

The O Spa
What's great about our voucher is that it came with a free 90 minute massage for two, which is usually not included in their published or promo rates. before leaving to have lunch outside of the hotel, we already scheduled our massage, which is the best way to go because the time slot that you want to take might be reserved already if you decide to book just an hour before.

Our massage therapists were nice and they put us in a couple's room. I'm not really fond of massages because I get easily tickled and I really don't like hard massages which some therapists do even if you tell them that you just want a light massage. Our therapists were very attentive and they obliged to my request to just keep the massage at a very tolerable level for me. It was super relaxing, which I don't usually feel after any massage (that's why I only have it like once every two years or if I receive a free massage/spa voucher).

Well, One Tagaytay Place isn't at par with the other 5-star hotel or quirky bed and breakfast places that you can find in Tagaytay, but service was pretty good and it somehow gave us a relaxing and quick getaway from the city. Their rates are affordable too and they often have promos. But if I have to pay for our accommodations the next time we go up to Tagaytay, I will probably check out other options and we'll probably stay in a B&B and with a great view of the Taal Volcsno instead.
