Sample Room Haul: Burt's Bees Products

I recently availed Burt’s Bees samples from Sample Room and this is my first time to try Burt’s Bees' other products besides their lip balm line. Since it is Burt’s Bee’s 30th anniversary they were generous enough to give away a lot of products for sampling and Sample Room released 6 products up for grabs on their website. Good thing that I was still subscribed as a VIP member that’s why I had the necessary points to get all samples.

First off, the samples were not mere sample size; no, not like those super mini samples that we usually received but the travel size ones. So it was really a super good deal even if I have to pay for 2 shipping fees, I must say that they were really worth it.

I know many of you are very familiar with Burt’s Bees, but I will still give a background nonetheless. Burt's Bees is an American personal care products subsidiary of Clorox that describes itself as an "Earth friendly, Natural Personal Care Company" making products for personal care, health, beauty, and personal hygiene. As of 2007, they manufactured over 197 products for facial and body skin care, lip care, hair care, baby care, men's grooming, and outdoor remedies distributed in nearly 30,000 retail outlets including grocery stores and drug store chains across the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Hong Kong, and Taiwan from their headquarters in Durham, North Carolina.

Burt's Bees manufactures their products with natural ingredients using minimal processing such as distillation/condensation, extraction/steamed distillation/pressure cooking and hydrolysis to maintain the purity of those ingredients. In addition, every product has a "natural bar" which gives a percentage of natural ingredients in that product, often with detailed ingredient descriptions.

Originating in Maine in the 1980s, the business began when co-founder Roxanne Quimby started making candles from Burt Shavitz's leftover beeswax. This eventually led to their bottling and selling of honey, a practice that slowly diminished as the company evolved as a corporation. Eventually, other products using honey and beeswax, including edible spreads and furniture polish, were sold, before moving into the personal care line.

So here’s the products that I was able to sample:
- Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
- Burt's Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion
- Burt's Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream
- Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Oil Hand Crème
- Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm Tube
- Burt’s Bees Hand Salve

So what do I think of these products and my feedback, read on to find out:

Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
>> Give your needy nails a helping hand. Nourish and moisturize nails and cuticles with this intensive, natural treatment. A touch of lemon oil makes your nails smell incredibly clean, and healthy, naturally.

I was super intrigued with this product the first time I saw bloggers posting about it so the minute Sample Room announced that they are giving away samples of Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream I made sure I will avail one. I love how compact and durable the packaging is and its size fits almost even the smallest make up purse. The lemon smell is just enough and not too over powering. The wax/cream doesn't melt easily which is really good. I thought that it will leave a waxy or oily residue after application but there wasn't. I never really cared too much about my nails, they are the least of the body parts that I would think of moisturizing (the least I do to them is have them manicured and pedicured and put nail colors) but like our eyes being the window to our soul, our nails are the window to one's hygiene so I got to start caring for them too. After a week of using the product I noticed that the stains on my nails (due to prolonged and constant use of nail polish) have diminished and they look healthier than ever!

Burt's Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion
>> Soothing milk meets honey in this nourishing yet lightweight natural moisturizing lotion. Honey acts as a natural humectant, while aloe and sunflower oil soothe and moisturize skin.

Even before applying it, I knew right then and there that it'll be a good product because it contains milk and honey, which are time-tested ingredients that gives ultimate moisturizing benefits, not to mention that honey also has antibacterial constituents. So it doesn't only leaves my skin super soft and moisturize but also less prone to bacterial infections while using this product. I super love the sweet and classic smell it leaves on my skin which reminds me of a doughnut filling, super yummy! The consistency of the cream is not too thick that it is easily absorbed by the skin and doesn't leave a greasy feeling after application. Staying power is awesome too since I would usually re-apply lotion several times as the day passes but this one doesn't need a lot of re-application, twice a day would be enough (this is because I have really dry skin). Although I would still think about re-purchasing after my sample runs out because the price of the full-size product I think is kinda way too much for my budget.

Burt's Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream
>> This rich facial cleansing cream is gentle, yet effective. Naturally cleansing soap bark and healing aloe vera moisturize and soften skin while effectively removing makeup and dirt. Meanwhile, chamomile and echinacea soothe and calm for naturally fresh, healthy skin.

This product is such a surprise! With cleansing my face, I would usually use a facial foam, scrub or gel. But Burt's Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream is very unique and is really exciting to use. I super love the its minty and cooling properties, it really gives me a refreshing feeling every time I use it. Unlike facial foams, scrubs, gels or soaps that leaves my skin super dry and tight (due lost of moisture) this cream does the opposite. My face even after patting it dry is still soft and moisturized. I usually clean my face twice daily and I make sure I use this every time I wash my face.  And since I have sensitive facial skin, this product being 100% natural doesn't cause me any irritation after using it and also even if I use it twice a day. I also don't need a separate make up remover or wash my face twice every time I get home because this does all the cleansing/cleaning works. Although I can't put my finger on exactly what its smell reminds me of, I still love it. With this product so great, I would probably invest on it.

Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Oil Hand Crème
>> This natural hand cream provides daily therapy for extremely dry hands using some of nature's most moisturizing agents like honey, jojoba oil and rosemary extract. Reveal hands that are naturally soft to the touch, smooth and healthy.

I have super dry skin and they are obvious especially around my hands and this product has helped a lot in moisturizing my hands. The cream's consistency is very effortless to spread and is easily absorbed by the skin. I tend to constantly spray my hands with alcohol to prevent acquiring skin-disease causing bacteria (because I use a keyboard my entire shift at work on a shared computer) and that often leaves my hands dry. Thanks to this Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Grapeseed Oil Hand Crème, my hands for the past couple of days is now always smooth and soft even if I constantly use alcohol for my hands. It is also a good thing that it contains honey because honey contains antibacterial properties as well. What I'm not liking about this product though is the smell, I am not someone who's fond of the smell of grapes. But it's good that the sample product is just the right size and can fit my small purse and even my jean pocket.

Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm Tube
>> The original. The best. And still your favorite. Our must-have balms have been playing in purses and pockets since 1991. Beeswax conditions skin, while antioxidant Vitamin E moisturizes. A final hint of Peppermint Oil provides that one-of-a-kind refreshing tingle. The result? Smooth, supple lips everyone will be buzzing about.

Like all the Burt's bees lip balms I've tried in the past this classic formula did deliver as well. It has this subtle pepperminty and tingly taste and feel after being applied. My lips received the same moisturization and conditioning just like all the Burt's Bees lip balms I that I have. Although the wax is more compact or hard in texture than the lip shimmers that I sampled a few months back and the pomegranate variant a friend gave me, I had to swipe it a couple times just to get the amount that I want to put on my lips. It doesn't feel too waxy for me, it is just the right amount of waxy-ness and greasy-ness to it. This variant also wears well under my lipstick. When it comes to re-application time I can say it has the average staying power but it doesn't matter because I even like it more that I have to reapply so that I can give my lips a good amount of moisturization that they need. I think I like this better than those with softer balm bullets because it won’t melt that easily. This is my favorite among all the Burt's Bees lip balms I've tried so far.

Burt’s Bees Hand Salve
>> Our most intensive hand treatment, this formula is packed with botanical oils, herbs and beeswax to moisturize hard working, rough, dry hands. It's an everyday miracle.

My hands are usually dry not only because I constantly use alcohol to disinfect them but they also are constantly taking some beating. This is because I don’t have a house help and I usually do the dishes and I sometimes wash some of our clothes that I don’t like to take to the laundry shop. Since I’ve received it last week I started putting the salve just before I sleep; just like a facial night cream but this time they’re for my hands. And then every time I wake up, my hands are always soft and supple. Though the smell kind of reminds me of those menthol balms that our parents apply to our chests when we were little kids and when we’re sick, but it’s completely tolerable. This Burt’s Bees Hand Salve is super moisturizing and is surprisingly not so greasy.  Even if it only came in a sturdy little tin can, I think it’ll take time to finish the sample because a little amount goes a long way during application. Some might find it a con, but I like that its consistency is very thick and I don’t have to worry that it’ll melt easily. My husband who doesn’t use any lotion/moisturizer at all also loves this, every time he sees me putting this on my hands he takes some too and applies it to his hands. As with repurchasing, I would probably think about it first or just ask a friend or relative from the US to send me or bring me home one.

I love every sample of Burt’s Bees that I got from Sample Room. On my own, I wouldn’t have the chance to buy any full size product unless it’s a gift from a relative or friend from the U.S. because they are kind of out of the league of my budget for body care products. Thanks to Sample Room I was able to experience these all natural products that give great benefits. Don’t you just love the idea of Sample Room’s “try before you buy”? Now I’m considering buying some of these Burt’s Bees products even though they’re kind of pricey because they are honestly good investments.

limited edition Sample Room paper bags, aren't they so pretty?
