Something Blue, All White - Breaking Wedding Traditions
Weddings are complicated events and has so many to-do’s and not-to-do’s; not to mention the many traditions that go with it and each will be based on someone’s culture and upbringing. But don’t get me wrong, I love weddings. I freelance once in awhile as a wedding coordinator and do some styling and chalkboard signs and I enjoy what I do. I know many of us are familiar with wedding traditions like the bride must wear something blue or must have something blue in her wedding and the no-white-policy-except-for-the bride.
But seeing weddings nowadays (yes I’m such a Pinterest-addict and I follow a lot of wedding blogs and Facebook accounts), couples are getting more and more rebellious and experimental with their weddings. Almost everyone aims to have a unique wedding. And you know the power of social media on how it can make unique events spread like wildfire and inspire others to follow suit.
For that “something-blue” tradition in weddings, why not make it as your wedding theme motif? There so may shades of blue that are very nice to have as your wedding color, like royal blue, baby powder blue or cobalt blue. Make your female entourage wear blue bridesmaid dresses in different shades of blue or a uniform shade of blue; it’s all up to you. This makes you less stressful in thinking about that something blue tradition for your wedding doesn't it?
Many modern brides nowadays veer away with all the traditions and superstitions in weddings; like that no other female can wear white on her wedding day except her. Many brides have been captured by the attention of an all white bridal dress and entourage dresses.
This trend really has me intrigued. I can still remember the ‘rule’ when attending a wedding … Never wear white! White was the color that has always been reserved for the bride only. Does it wash out the bride by making her entourage wear white bridesmaid dresses? Nah… I don’t think so. The bride can wear something in the shade of ivory or off-white so that she will still stand out. Or maybe she can wear a gown in the color of their wedding motif. How about that? Now, that’s something to talk about!
