DIY Wall Decor

Vinyl wall decals have quickly become a fun way to personalize rooms. It used to be mostly used for kid’s room or nursery but times have changed and current trends in interior designing and home improvements have embraced the idea of putting vinyl decals or stickers in any part of the house. Even on windows!

It’s been months since I started having this desire to buy wall decals for the bedroom and it’s been  around 2 years since I first saw an Instagram feed that showed off a room with wall decals and I immediately fell in love with it. But at that time when I searched for where to get it, the price was out of my budget because most of them costs more than a thousand peso bucks. I tried looking for it in Divisoria hoping it would be cheaper there. Unfortunately no one is selling them at the moment, well I’ve only looked for it in 168 mall and 999 mall and haven’t checked out all the other malls and stall in Divi.

And then one day I saw an email newsletter from a local group buying site and they were selling wall decals at prices way way cheaper from all those that I’ve seen. So you probably guessed it right, I didn’t let the chance pass and bought one.

They have limited designs and mostly are not of my liking, but one stood out the decals with bird cages! I love the whole shabby-chic vintage vibe and bird cages are one of those items that you can associate with those themes I have In mind. So that’s the design that I got and I want it in one color only for that posh effect.

It took me a week after I got the wall decals before I was able to install them. I wanted a day where I didn’t have anything scheduled to do it so I can enjoy putting them up. First I cleaned the entire area of the wall where I would stick them up with a damp cloth and then dried it up using dry and clean cloth and let it  air dry completely for a good 5-10 minutes. I took that time to read the instructions and lay out the decal  flat on the floor.

I used a ruler to guide me with the thin straight stickers that served as the string holding the bird cages. BUT I couldn’t keep them straight LOL! It was ok, I don’t think it needs to be that perfect as long as they don’t look so crooked and they look continuous, I’m good! I ended the “strings” at different lengths to make it look more dimensional. (ok I just copied the one on the instruction sheet hahahaha!).

Then I started peeling off the cages and stick them on the wall carefully making sure to press them down good on the wall so they would stick better.

Next up were the finishing touches. My wall decal set came with butterflies of different sizes, I just went with the flow and just stick them wherever I wanted. And it turned out looking ok.

So here’s the completed project:

It took me around an hour to put them up because I was trying to make the strings straight. It was pretty easy to install them and I actually did enjoy doing it even if it required little effort. If you have kids it would be better if you have them help you with installing wall decals, it would be a great activity don’t you think?

My only concern is that I hope I can easily remove, reposition and even transfer them somewhere else in the apartment when I want to replace them with something new. What do you think of my new wall décor?
