Exile Creamerie Co.

Being in exile is a situation in which you are forced to leave a place and go live in a foreign place. This might sound a bit harsh, but there are times when you get that feeling to just leave everything behind and go somewhere where you know nobody or to place you have no idea how to traverse. Or being in exile may mean going to your safe or happy place and just be alone away from the noises of this world. And maybe, just maybe, you will meet new faces who will make you feel like you're not lost in this crazy life.

Speaking of exile, I was recently invited to this hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Katipunan, Q.C. which happens to be named Exile on Main St. This branch is their second and the first one is in Malate. Both (though I haven'tbeen tothe Malate branch) exudes a different kind of world with its interior design. It's like going through that rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland.

The  restaurant is owned by three college friends and theater practitioners which they named after their favorite Rolling Stone album: Exile on Main Street. Both the Malate and Katipunan branch are tucked in a small compound where you'll feel exiled from the world all the time.

Through the uncanny and eclectic interiors of both sites, people got curious and through word of mouth Exile on Main St gained its popularity from people of all walks of life, especially the artists, the poets and of course the foodies.

When it comes to the food that they serve their philosophy is simple, they offer dishes that the owners love to eat and serve them the way they enjoy them. They make their own sauces, dips, breading, batters, crusts, salsa, sausages, desserts, ice cream all in-house and from scratch! What's also great about Exile on Main St. is that they try to be out-of-the-box while keeping their prices friendly, after all, their clienteles are mainly students and yuppies.

Now let's get down to business, Exile is not only known for their out-of-this world interiors, tasty food and the events being held at their two branches but also their home-made desserts and their ice creams! Yey ice creams!!!! Can I get anymore excited about ice creams!?! And we got to try them all!!!!! Exile On Main St.'s baby Exile Creamery Co. is the home-made ice cream line of Exile where they use whole milk, pure cream, eggs and no-bull flavors.

Loving Cup aka Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - The mother of all ice creams that Exile make. This one uses only whole milk, pure cream, eggs, and natural bourbon vanilla beans, which is why it remains closest to every hearts and bellies. You can ask for a drizzling of caramel, but we like it best plain Jane.

Y Tu Mama Brownie - made of Dutch Cocoa, Semisweet Chocolate and Walnuts, a really really sinful dessert served with caramel sauce. Up the ante with the Loving cup Vanilla Bean ice cream which will blow your mind away! So chewy!!1

No-Eggs-Were-Harmed Choco Banana Cake with Fudge - a slice of moist choco banana cake topped with home-made choco peanut butter fudge. It’s perfect for people looking for a lighter (though not quite light still) dessert. Served warm, just the way everyone likes it. No eggs were harmed in the making of this banana bread. Topped with  Loving cup Vanilla Bean ice cream and yes equally sinful!

Roasted Butter Pecan - Brown Butter & Toasted Pecan Ice Cream. Exile’s brown butter ice cream studded with toasted pecan nuts is hands-down the favorite among initial taste-testers. The caramelized butter gives it a surprising yema and the pecans add the perfect crunch and comfort in your mouth. It’s just one of those ice creams you want to snuggle up with. The favorite of all the bloggers present on that cold and rainy Sunday afternoon.

Milk & Cookies - cookie-infused ice cream with half-baked chocolate cookies you know how milk takes on the flavor of Oreos after you’ve dunked all your cookies in it? Now imagine: Exile soak and infuse a portion of our homemade chocolate cookies in the ice cream to get that in-my-jammies goodness. The rest of the batter they half-baked to chewy delight, and churn into their own take of cookies and cream.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cloud - Half-Baked Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies in Vanilla Ice Cream. Chewy, half-baked chocolate chip cookies were all over this cloud. But it wasn’t like any other fluff you see up above, it just makes you feel like you’re eating clouds because IT IS that hella-freakin’ good!

Maja Blanca - Sweet Corn Ice Cream with Latik. Fresh sweet corn on the cobs is boiled in milk, and the kernels are then crushed and blended into the ice cream base to extract a deep corn flavor. But Exile, being card-carrying dessert hedonists, also added whole corn kernels and latik bits (and yes, they made the latik themselves). It’s maja blanca in ice cream form, only cornier... more corny... more corn-like... yeah you're corny... LOL!

Mad Tea Party - Creamy Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream with Lemon Pound Cake. Milk tea just got a lot creamier and if that wasn’t enough, Exile baked lemon pound cake, chopped it up, and churned it into their Earl Grey tea ice cream. This is truly a surprisingly refreshing treat and you can really taste the tea flavor.

The Revel Bar - Fudge Ice Cream w/ Oatmeal Walnut Chunks. The gooey chocolate fudge ice cream almost has a candy bar sinfulness to it, and yes, that is the intent. Then you bite into the oatmeal walnut chunks and instantly you remember revel bars. Healthy? Maybe. Sinful? Definitely!
