Toni and Sergio Gastro Italiano at Venice Grand Canal Mall

My office is just a stone's throw away from Venice Grand Canal Mall and I am a witness while its construction was ongoing until it formally opened to the public. While on the morning shift a couple of months ago with my officemates and I would always eat somewhere there if our work load isn't that hard and that we can afford to spend an hour for lunch. I am intrigued with the new restaurants in the area but only lately that I get to try some of them.

One of the restaurants I've been dying to try at Venice is Toni and Sergio. It is a Gastro Italiano resto that offers delightful and luscious authentic Italian and Spanish cuisines and owned by Iapino Family - the same owners of Parmigiano restaurant. I had dinner here with my good high school friends and coincidentally, the business' tag line is "Where good friends meet!". Isn't that fitting or what? After all one of the definition of friendship is catching up over good food and something nice to drink.

The store has a warm and relaxed ambiance. It also has one of the best spots at Venice Grand Canal Mall because their al fresco dining area is situated along the canal replica and one of the bridges. It kinda gives you that out of the country vibes, as if you're not in Manila. My friends even said they didn't expect the place to look so nice, especially my balikbayan friend. Of course we had to take photos at the al fresco area and on the bridge.

Their menu consists of Italian and Spanish dishes with a vast array of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Here are what we got to try:

Complimentary Bread - they serve this plain bread together with Pesto and Balsamic Vinegar Dip as an appetizer while you wait for your orders as they may take 10-20 minutes before being served.

Toni and Sergio Nachos with Pulled Pork – homemade savory pulled pork and chicharones topped nachos. The amount of nachos with this order is pretty huge and could feed 4-5 people. Like other nachos the ingredients fill mostly the top part. But the pulled pork and the sauce were tasty. The 5 of wasn't able to finish the whole thing, since the serving was really a lot.

Bruschette Della Casa – Toasted breads with three different toppings. I was not able to ask what the toppings were for each bread. But I personally liked the one with the fish flakes. I forgot if that was tuna or what.

Frutti Di Mare Pizza – tomato sauce, Mozzarella, mussels, clams, squid, prawns. The crust had the right thickness and crispiness. It was super cheesy which I super liked. Every one of us agreed that this was a great pizza. It had enough toppings and definitely very tasty.

Porcini and Truffle Cream Pasta – variety of mushrooms in cream sauce. The truffle flavor on this pasta was very distinct, something I like when a dish says it has truffle. I don't like just hints but full-flavored, which this pasta dish definitely delivered. Though the mushrooms that were there was just porcini mushrooms in it unlike what the description in the menu that says it has a variety of mushrooms.

Paella Dela Casa – prawns, mussels, clams, chorizo and black olives. The amount of paella on the pan is just ok because it was spread thinly on a huge skillet pan. The toppings are also not that many. Either way this was a good paella. Good thing we ordered a couple of dishes so we didn't feel "bitin" with our dinner. We even had couple of leftovers from all that we ordered so we were ok.

All in all it was a great dinner/catch-up with my high school friends that I don't often see because each has busy schedules and some are even living abroad. Truly Toni and Sergio is a good place to meet with friends.
