Lucky's Burger and Bar at Tuscany Private Estates

Holidays for me mean a couple of things: family, friends and food. So what I do when friends who come home from abroad ask me to take them out? I bring them to a place I’ve never been before. In that case we can all share and enjoy a first-timer’s memory. So one lazy Monday afternoon, I met up with a college friend of mine whose home from Canada for the holidays and brought him to McKinley Hill, which is an emerging mini-urban district in Bonifacio Global City.

I thought of bringing him to the newly-opened Venice Grand Canal Mall, where there’s a replica of the Venetian canal and Rialto bridge (just like the one in Venetian Macau). Unfortunately, there weren’t any restaurants open there just yet except for a food court. And of course you don’t make a balikbayan eat in a food court; you bring them to a much more decent place where you can reminisce the good old times of your college days and do some catching up.

Then I suddenly remember a restaurant just around the area, which another balikbayan friend of mine tried when she visited Manila early this year. So I went through her Instagram account to look for her post about that restaurant and find out the name as well. When I finally did, I searched for it online to see how far we need to walk to get there from the Venice Grand Canal Mall. When I was finished, I told my friend where we would go and that we have to walk a block or two to get there. But as we turned at the next street, the Tuscany Private Estates was just around the bend. Funny it looked pretty far on my google map.

So we looked for Lucky’s Burger and Bar from among the restaurants that lined the street and it was the second space from the end of the stretch near a fountain. It used to be a solely burger joint but was overhauled into a restaurant with a menu offering of wide range of Western comfort food, drinks and desserts.

It is a small space with a mezzanine and an al fresco dining area which would be a yuppie-and-hipsters-magnet-kind-of-place. Lighting, furniture and ambiance are quite cozy and warm. I like that the location is not so busy and great for just chilling out unlike the other nearby areas in Bonifacio Global City. This place is definitely perfect for a small gathering with friends.

So, since it is just the two of us, we asked the staff about their best-sellers right there and then. She pointed to a section of the menu and I asked her which one has the bacon and she pointed to the menu again. My college buddy Mark already made up his mind getting the Lucky Chops thus the deal was sealed.

I got the Lucky’s Crispy Bacon and Egg and Mark ordered the Lucky Chops. For the drinks, I got the freshly brewed iced tea 64 and a lychee smash cocktail and Mark got a Smirnoff. He must have already adopted that Western habit of drinking alcohol with his dinner hahahaha!

Lucky Chops: 2 pieces of grilled pork chops served with buttered French beans, garlic and chive, fried rice and gravy.  Of course I told my friend we need to share both dish so we can both try both dishes.  The pork chops were tender and tasty, even without the gravy; it was already very good on its own. We traded rice though because I wasn’t in the mood to eat half-cooked egg and Mark did. But even the rice made me exclaimed “sarap nito!” (this is tasty!) This menu entry is worth every buck for the size of the serving.

Lucky’s Crispy Bacon and Egg: home-made crispy bacon, served with sous vide egg, with garlic and chive fried rice. This is an upscale version of baconsilog if I may say so, but like I said a while back, I wasn’t in the mood for the egg so I gave it to my friend.  The bacon had just the right amount of greasiness to it and they were truly crispy. Not salty as well. The bacon came with two dips:  vinegar and sweet-chili sauce which both gave more flavor to the already superb bacon chips. I have nothing bad to say about it, who doesn’t love bacon anyway?

Freshly Brewed Iced Tea 64: I love that it doesn’t taste like the usual made with powdered ready mix teas.

Lychee smash cocktail: this comes with a mild mix of Vodka and I didn’t even give a hint taste of alcohol, which was cool for me.

I love that Lucky’s Burger & Bar’s menu offerings are quality dishes that doesn’t bore a hole in one’s pocket. Can you just imagine that only ordering two dishes from them, made Lucky’s win my heart? Well if you ask me, that in itself already says a lot about this restaurant. Great tasting meals in reasonable prices will make me definitely want to go back again and again and again.

Great college friend. Great conversations. Great food
