Buying Abroad: What You Need To Know

Moving to a new country is a huge adventure, but finding a home is one of the hardest parts of the whole process. Not only are you having to look around houses that are styled vastly different to the one that you're used to, but you also have to get used to a whole new way of doing things. The mortgage process may be different. The tax laws aren't the same.

The legal pitfalls and bad properties are even going to be different. A lot of people who travel abroad see a place and fall in love with it, so their natural next step is for them to want to consider buying a property. A lot of people consider buying overseas and letting the property out during the year to the locals, but others choose to buy a property and move into it full time themselves.

The Meeting Point: Home of Jameson Whiskey in the Philippines

I'm such a lightweight when it comes to drinking these days. But I have always been fonder of hard liquors than beers. Only just a few years back that I started a liking for whiskey. Sure, I drink hard alcohol, gin, vodka, tequila, rum, brandy. But whiskey just became my favorite of all of them because of its bitter-sweet-smoky notes.

My go-to whiskey is VAT69 due to Captain Lewis Nixon. And then I was introduced to Jameson Whiskey by an American friend of mine. He's an all-American from Texas with Irish roots and you know how they are in the South. They like drinking and liquor haha! I immediately took a liking for Jameson especially when it's mixed with ginger ale or peach juice.

Six World Cities You Need To See

Those who love the city will know the utter wanderlust that comes with visiting as many cities as possible. Sure, there may not be any mountainous views or rolling waves off the coast when you're in a city, but you do get the twinkling lights, the hustle and bustle of the locals, the street food smells and the sheer dominance of the buildings. There is a beauty in the city, even the smelliest and most air-polluted cities have a charm to them that cannot be captured elsewhere. Everyone who loves the countryside still feels the buzz when they visit the cities. Getting lost and being anonymous among those determined to get to their destination is part of the allure of the town, but more than that, they're dripping with history.

Cities were built and fought for, torn down and built again over and over again throughout history. No matter where you are in the city, there is always somewhere centuries-old to visit and enjoy. With that in mind, we're going to talk about six world cities that you absolutely must see during your travels. Let's take a look!

Yummy Tokyo: Yummiest Ramen in Town Under 200 Bucks!

I’m not someone who’s fond of the rainy season because I hate the cold and the gloomy weather. I can never say “the cold never bothered me anyway” because it does bothers me. But yes, I love when it’s raining if I can get to sleep in during the sweater weather and eat any hot steaming dish. It’s just a warming experience to be able to eat something like ramen while the rain pours outside.

Just last weekend, I got to experience something like that except that I was out and about and trekking from BGC to QC for some good ramen experience while the sky was crying non-stop. The moment I woke up it was already raining and this kind of weather somehow slows me down. I mean, it’s harder to move and if I had a choice, I would stay in bed all day.

Amici Just Found Its New Home In BGC With New Dishes To Boot!

Amici just found its new home in BGC with new dishes to boot! Amici is my default place when I want to have a little taste of Italy and it just recently opened its 9th location on the 3rd floor of One Bonifacio High Street just across Shangri-La Hotel and so near where I work! Yahooo! In line with their newest store, Amici also launched limited edition dishes that will surely make your dining experience the most satisfying one and make you savour a taste of Italy and Italian cuisine at its finest.

Amici is an Italian term that means "a friend". When Filipinos come across Amici, many are transported back to the nostalgic times when it first started out as a cafeteria in Don Bosco, Makati. Amici di Don Bosco dates back to 2001 and was founded by Fr. Gianluigi Colombo, a Salesian Italian priest in charge of overseeing the operations of the Don Bosco Makati Printing Press. Fr Colombo introduced Italian coffee and gelato, brick-oven baked pizza and homemade pasta.

Slabber's: Smoked Rib House & Chicken Wings - Century Mall

I rarely find myself in Makati nowadays but it used to be part of my daily life in the past; that is because I used to work in the heart of the Makati CBD and rented an apartment in the neighboring city of Mandaluyong. But at the present time, I barely know what’s new and what’s not in this city. I only go there if I need to attend to something important or an event.

The last time I was in Makati was when I did a weekend staycation with my friends at City Garden Hotel Makati. While we waited for our other friends, we decided to have a late lunch and my friends suggested we check out Century Mall since it’s just a few blocks away. I’ve only set foot in this mall twice or thrice but never got to explore the stores or restos inside.

The Best Bachelorette Evening Party Dresses

Deciding what to wear to wear to a bridal bachelorette party can get a bit overwhelming. There will be so many things that the bride or her friends can think of for what kind of party that they want to hold, so you also have a lot to consider. They may want you to dress up in certain colors, or maybe just in your swimsuits, other impromptu events and/or some night out in town.

Whether the party is a  weekend staycation, a trip to the beach or an out of the country trip, or anything in between, be sure to bring some sexy evening gowns because you know this time around, it’s a time to dress for your girlfriends and not for your man; or if you are single, you might snag a man!

Finest Dining Experience at Sagana French Bistro - BGC

Sagana is a Tagalog word which means abundant or bountiful. Majority of the livelihoods outside the urban sites in the Philippines can be attributed to agriculture and fishing. And traditional Catholic Filipinos always pray to the patron saint San Isidro Labrador to help them as they plant their crops and by his grace give forth a bountiful or abundant, aka a “masaganang” harvest.

A restaurant by Chef Marc Aubry in BGC was named as Sagana as it features a farm to table approach for its clienteles. The real story behind why that name was chosen, I have no idea. But I have a hunch that it was because of the significance of that Filipino word to the whole concept of the brand. Sagana French Bistro is a French Restaurant that promotes and uses the best quality, locally sourced produce while remaining true to the traditions and authenticity of French Cooking.

Beautiful Wedding Dresses on a Budget

Nowadays weddings are super big deal. I always here the old folks say that during their day, during their wedding day, they just pick up off-the-rack wedding dresses, register to the church, get married and have a reception in just about any restaurant and go on with their lives as married couples. But now weddings are grand and sometimes crazy grand.

Sure, you can have a wedding that would be at par with the British royals, and that is if you have an endless supply of money in your bank account or parents who has just what I said. But what if you don’t have that and you only have limited budget? Does that mean you can’t have the wedding of your dreams?

Kebomb: Pocket-Friendly Persian/Mediterranean Cuisine

Japanese and Mediterranean fares are the top two of my fave cuisines in the whole wide world. And I consider Persian/Mediterranean dishes as one of the foods that I search comfort from. For some reason, I love eating them when I’m stressed out. I don’t know why but they calm me down; the strong flavors distract me perhaps or maybe I just love to eat way too much. I dunno…

But I think you might have noticed it too that most of the Persian/Mediterranean restaurants in Manila are quite expensive. This is maybe because some of these restaurants use ingredients that are directly sourced from the Middle East to get those authentic flavors. It would commonly cost 300 bucks and above for decent Mediterranean meal. Any less than that sometimes the flavor and quality will be compromised. That, until I learned about Kebomb.

Most Gorgeous Dresses for the Bridesmaids

I have to say I always love weddings. I love attending them as well; whether I am a guest, a coordinator or part of the bridal entourage. I am proud to say I have experienced every level of being part of a wedding from being flower girl, to a bridesmaid, to being a maid-of-honor and now a matron-of-honor to one of best friend's wedding next year.

Every time I get to be chosen as part of a wedding, I always get elated and I always tell the bride and groom that the honor of being a bridesmaid or a maid of honor is always mine. And of course, I do my best to be help to the bride and groom in any way that I can.

All Day Brunching at Sunnies Café - SM Megamall

Brunch has become a thing nowadays. But did you know that it is not the millennials who invented the term or that way of eating? Actually, brunch originated in England in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States in the 1930s. Brunch is a portmanteau word for breakfast plus lunch and is eaten usually during the late morning to early afternoon, generally served from 10am up to 2pm, and regularly has some form of alcoholic drink, most usually champagne or a cocktail, served with it.

And of course, the Philippines isn't spared from this so-called phenomenon. You would find a lot of establishments in and around the metro serving brunch. One of the pioneers of brunch restaurants in Manila is Sunnies Café. Sunnies Cafe is where good food and good mood meet. Brunch to dinner, coffee to cocktails.

New Hip Place in the Heart of San Juan: Araullo Gastropub

Beyond the highly exclusive villages and the ever-famous Greenhills Shopping Center, did you know that the city of San Juan played an important role in history? The city is known historically for the site of the first battle of the Katipunan, during the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. Notable landmarks today such as Pinaglabanan Shrine and heritage homes are located in the city.

Aside from being a major shopping hub, unbeknownst to many, San Juan is also one of the premier dining destinations in Metro Manila. It may seem that the prominence of this area has somewhat diminished throughout the year, as establishments have come and go in Greenhills and Wilson St. But if you venture out of the mainstream area of the city, and go to the heart of it, you will actually find some hidden gems.

Bring Back Your Childhood Memories with Dough Creamery - North Towers, SM City North EDSA

What makes you nostalgic? What things or places reminds you of good o’l days and/or happy memories of your childhood? Is it a song, a movie, a book, a toy, a place, or a particular food perhaps? When I get nostalgic about something, my mind wanders off. I somehow bury myself in the warmth, pure joy and limited worries of that certain memory. Especially when that nostalgic thought brings about the comforts of childhood and zero responsibility.

I like to reminisce things about my childhood, it wasn’t the best but I so have so many fun memories. I don’t know if it’s a form of regressing or I just want to go back to them unconsciously hoping I can start all over and avoid a lot of things that take up some space for regrets. But all I know is, it feels quite good especially when I think about my grandma’s cooking, the sweet potato that we would dig in my grandma’s garden and cook afterwards, the daily visits of street hawkers of binatog, taho and dirty ice cream.

Dark Coffee Specialty Coffee - SM North EDSA

In this time and age when coffee fuels the soul of almost every living person in the world, do you still know anyone who doesn’t drink coffee? For those you know who do, do you have an idea as to what type of coffee they prefer? I remember how my former S.O. would always joke around whenever I asked him how he likes his coffee. He would always respond: “I like my coffee dark, just like my soul.” He just thinks that he has that, but he is the opposite of a dark soul, he was nothing but a lovely creature. As for me, I love the bitter sweet kind, it’s not that my soul is bitter sweet, but my life is, I guess.

Anyhoo, speaking of dark and coffee, I discovered this café named Dark Specialty Coffee during one of the rare times that I found myself in SM North EDSA. You can find it in the main (and oldest) building of the SM North EDSA mall complex, near the cinemas and the walkway to the parking building. It is somehow interconnected with the store beside it which is Onesimus, (looks like this well-known brand that makes and retails barongs, suits and formal wear for men has also ventured in the food and beverage sector). Both of which are owned by the same company, yes.

Affojeans - Manila's Affogato

I love coffee and I couldn’t reiterate enough how much important it is to me. Clinically speaking, I don’t think caffeine still has any effects on me physiologically. I guess drinking several cups of coffee a day made me immune to caffeine that it doesn’t really work its magic on me now unlike before. Nowadays it’s more of a psychological effect. But I still couldn’t skip drinking at least 1 cup after I roll out of bed. Whatever it is my relationship with coffee, it still is the fuel of my soul.

I like my coffee bitter sweet, but I’m always up for trying other variants. I don’t know if you have heard of affogato? I’ve come across it in the past but I’m kind of confused as to where it falls. Is it a dessert? Is it coffee? Though restaurants and cafes in Italy categorize the affogato as a dessert, some restaurants and cafes outside Italy categorize it as a beverage.

Helpful Tips About Your Wedding Hair and Makeup Trials

When coming up with the hair and makeup you want to wear on your wedding day, you will probably use some photos as inspiration. However, your look in the end might look completely different on the photograph that you drew the inspiration from and the concept in your mind. Not to mention that only when you actually see yourself in the mirror will you be able to say if that's exactly how you want to see yourself on your wedding day. That's why scheduling a hair and makeup trial is of great importance. You'll be able to make a final decision about your previously envisioned ‘do, as well as about your maquillage and make all the necessary changes to make you look fabulous on the big day.

Say yes to the dress first
Don't even think about scheduling a hair trial until you found your wedding gown. You may think that you want a sweetheart neckline and an A-line gown, but that ultimately may not be the choice you go with. That's why you shouldn't schedule a hair trial and have your gorgeous locks curled up when you may end up buying a dress with an open back that will require your hair to be slightly if not completely up in a bun so that you can flaunt that sexy backside.

New Dishes from Tori Chizu - U.P. Town Center

Chizu is a Japanese word that means a thousand storks and the stork plays an interesting role in Japanese arts and culture. It can have a variety of meanings depending on how it was depicted in a story, a historical record, and more. In many East Asian countries, the stork is believed to represent prosperity and longevity. It is also a symbol of grace, wisdom, and luck. On the other hand, in Western cultures, stork is known to symbolize birth and new life and are sometimes included in fictional stories depicting that the stork brings in babies for expecting parents.

Another meaning of chizu is cheese. I am not sure if this meaning is a gairaigo or Japanese loan word from English (or a Japanized English word) but as far as my research went it kind of looks like it is. I am not sure why Scottland Incorporated decided to name one of their restaurants as such (the are also the ones behind Go Bento and Bon Chon) but based on the articles I’ve read Tori Chizu literally means “chiken” and “cheese”.

Unli-Pasta and Homey Fusion Dishes at Chef Robert Greenhills

One fact that is true for all, is that food will always give emotional comfort. Studies show that the brain responds to happiness and stress relief by continuing to crave the same comfort foods. It may be emotional eating or you’re just craving for your favorite foods of your childhood; these nourishments provide some relief from negative moods or enhance a current elated feeling.

My comfort food are sinigang and caldereta. I always search for them whenever I’m feeling stressed as I believe these lessens some of my burdens or I just like to believe that they do. Sometimes, I crave for the same dishes for whenever I feel nostalgic or just feeling good overall, that I’m in the mood to cook or eat them. How about you? What comes to mind when you think of comfort food? Or where do you go to get them?

Exploring the Magic of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs

Sydney’s eastern suburbs are one of the most amazing parts of this fabulous city. Situated between the pretty Rose Bay, offering stunning harbour views and Double Bay, famous for jewellery designers’ workshops, this location is bathed in sun from dawn to dusk. There is Rushcutters Bay, where you can hire a yacht or anchor your own and many great sporting events at Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium in Moore Park. And the list goes on… So, what makes this part of Sydney so popular?

Bondi beach
It wouldn’t be fair to start with any other part of the suburbs than the internationally renowned Bondi beach. This crescent-shaped stretch of white marble sand and rolling waves symbolize the relaxed beach culture of the city. Bondi is just 8km from the city centre, so it comes as no surprise that it’s one of the busiest suburbs of Sydney. Apart from the beach, you can find a lot of cafes and restaurants, as well as nice promenades where you can enjoy the sunshine and laid-back attitude to life.

Flattering Swimsuits for Every Body Type

A few days ago the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration declared that it is already the start of the rainy season in the Philippines. Usually summer ends in May in this part of the world but somehow this year it was extended until the mid of June. Even if it is technically the monsoon season, I still can’t feel it because up until this day, the weather is still super humid and hot. And I wish I’m not in the city but in a beach somewhere.

The good thing about living in a country lying on the tropical belt is that it’s basically three hundred sixty five days of summer here. It may rain but it doesn’t mean it is going to rain every day or for weeks during the rainy months. So even if the weather is a bit cloudy or gloomy, that is not a reason for people to enjoy the outdoors or go to swimming pool or the beach.

Dong Juan Marikina - Burgers, Pasta, Pizza and More

Cebu is known as the Queen City of the South not only because of its rich history, its many tourists spots, beautiful beaches and lovely people but also because it’s a culinary paradise as well. Some of Manila’s great restaurants have its origins in Cebu and I just visited one of them at Lamp Quarters in Marikina – Dong Juan.

I’m from the East but I’ve never been to Lamp Quarters until last weekend. Lamp Quarters is a beautiful food park except that it houses full blown restaurants rather than food stalls. Why haven’t I been here before? The moment I stepped on the compound all I can say is that “Ang ganda naman dito!” (It’s so pretty here!).

Delicious Eats and Quirky Finds at Q House Uptown Place Mall BGC

I know I have become somewhat a tita/auntie, not full blown though as I still don’t have a kikay kit with Katinko, essential oils or Salon pass. But I admit that I rarely go out now, unless I have to go to an event or meet up with friends for something important. Most of the time I tend to stay home on weekends, do household chores and errands or catch up with all the backlogs for my blog and social media, unlike before that you would me in a mall for hours on end. That's why if you ask me now if I know what a concept store is, I wouldn't know unless I look it up.

So what then is a concept store? Well based on my quick research, it is a place that sells carefully curated and unique selection of products pulled together from different brands that connect to a broadscale theme. Concept stores cover just about anything, heck, even food.

6 Tips to a Happy Wedding Day

For many, a wedding is an exceptionally joyous event, but several psychological factors come into play while approaching this significant life point. With the wedding requirements and practicalities fast piling up, it’s critical for you to focus on the larger picture, and hold certain values in your heart. Below are six tips that every couple should keep in mind, so they are well prepared for the wedding day.

Don’t Ignore Family Dynamics
Weddings are the perfect events for bringing people you love together for the celebration of love itself. Unfortunately, as relatives who haven’t seen each other in a while meet, it’s likely to ignite old family memories that aren’t always pleasant. This includes things like overprotective fathers, critical stepparents, or even jealous mothers.
