Practical Tips to Help You Avoid Burnout While Working From Home

The global pandemic notwithstanding, more and more people are negotiating for more flexible working hours, which often means remote working and a lot of working from home. For any employee, the level of flexibility therein accorded is something short of a dream come true. While it might not be an option that works for everyone, it’s an arrangement that’s now preferred by most employers, and most people who preferred the order of commutes to and from work and getting things done by a specific time have had to get on with the way things are now.

But even with the flexibility and the extra layer of freedom that comes from working from home, one thing is clear – more than ever, the risk of burnout is at a high. And with burnout, there’s the drop in productivity, which only harms a company’s bottom line, not to mention individual health. So, how do we go about it? How do you draw the line between work and non-work tasks, personal and professional lives? With your afternoons blending with the evening and the weekdays blending with your weekends, and consequently a very little sense of time off, how do you keep up or maintain your flow, mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing? And more importantly, how do you balance work and family without burning out completely?

How to keep your eyes healthy whilst working from home

Working on a computer or other kind of screen all day can have a negative impact on our eyes. From headaches and eye strain to dry eyes and blurred vision, there are many different symp-toms that you might find yourself experiencing – particularly if you’re working at home now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily there are a few simple steps you can take to help miti-gate the impact of heavy screen use on your eyes, all of which you can continue to follow if and when you go back to the office. Here are our top tips.

Take regular breaks from the screen
Whilst it’s impossible to avoid screen use altogether, getting away from them for brief moments throughout the day can be really helpful. A great tip to follow is the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes look at something about 20 feet away from you for 20 seconds. This is a simple trick that helps relax the eye muscles and ensure that they get the breaks they require. If possible, try and get outdoors into the fresh air and sunshine to feel the biggest benefit. When you really can’t get away from the screen, try and deliberately blink more often in order to keep your eyes more moist.

My Very Own Starry Night Over The Rhone by Van Gogh c/o Photowall Sweden + Discount Code

If you guys dont know it yet, I'm a HUGE fan of the Dutch impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. It is one of my life goals to see his masterpieces in person and to visit Nuenen, Netherlands -his birthplace. I remember one of the subjects I had back in University of Asia the Pacific was about European arts, while all my classmates were bored and pretending to listen to our professor (who was excited everytime she talks about all these things and her travels to Europe), I was the only one paying attention, fascinated by the paintings and sculptures by European artists flashed on the projector.

Van Gogh was one of the Impressionists that intrigued me, Starry Night Over the Rhone is my fave work of his (and no not the famous Starry Starry night that you know). I remember my professor telling us with so much enthusiasm about Van Gogh's mental illness and how it affected his work. Last year, I visited Van Gogh's digital exhibit, I became fully aware of that, as this showed Van Gogh’s life and works, throughout his life, and you could see how evident his mental illness with his choice of colors, the heaviness of his brushstrokes and the lack of the detail that he used to have, as he succumbed to his  own demons. Tragically, he’s one of these artists who never got to experience the fruits and glory of his talent and works.

How Beauty Procedures Have Changed with Technology

Technology and beauty have always had a relationship. From the time of the ancient Egyptians, stretching to the present day, humans have used advances in technological prowess to influence the way we look.

These days, the beauty industry is a modern integrated industry using unique technologies. Advanced chemical engineering practices create anti-aging serums fit for a Shakespearian witch. Cosmetic surgeons use lasers and micro-surgery techniques to alter the way we look. Snapchat and Instagram filters change the way we look without actually changing our bodies.

Looking into the future, beauty in a post-COVID-19 world may incorporate augmented reality to allow customers to try on makeup without touching examples.

Send smiles and hugs this Christmas, say it with Ben’s Cookies!

And just like that, the year is about to end. It was January of 2020, me making plans for the summer and to migrate somewhere in Europe for good, I blinked, and it is already December. What just happened? I’m still in awe. Can we, like, cancel 2020? As If it never happened? In 2021, can we do a reset, move  a year and take out 2020? I mean, seriously.

During times like this when I reflect back to the year that was, I can’t help but get a little bit sad of the things on my goals list that I want able to tick out. What a bummer, right? And something like this needs a pick-me-upper. Such a timely thing though, I went out last Sunday with my girlfriends for brunch and when I got home a box of Ben’s Cookies was waiting for me. Hello, it’s just England’s best cookie brand lang naman! So obviously, I’m beyond ecstatic!

Yummy Tea-Based Drinks and IG-Worthy Space at TANTEA Tomas Morato

I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those people who celebrates his/her birthday low key and sometimes almost never. Although my birthday falls on a day after a payday (in the Philippines) I can’t remember having any kind of grand celebration. This went on up to my adulthood. But when I started earning money, I started to celebrate my birthday on travels. Although these past few trips that I made haven’t fallen on my exact birthday. I’ll probably do that next year or the next.

This year, due to the pandemic, I can’t make any travel plans at all, even if I wanted to.  Unbeknownst to two of my friends, I asked them to go out with me on my birthday this year. I just really want to go out of my apartment which I leave every 2-3 weeks. I was going to keep it hush hush and just wanted to spend time with my friends whom I haven’t seen in person for months, but the secret was outed on one of the bloggers group Facebook page that I belong to, LOL! So that was that.

A cool set of sheet masks
If your favorite lady is a huge skincare lover, we highly suggest getting her a cool set of sheet masks. In case you didn’t know, a sheet mask is a revolutionary skincare product typical of the Korean beauty routine. Basically, these are cotton-based sheets infused with different essences or serums that address various skin issues. They significantly differ from traditional face masks because the sheet creates a seal on your skin and prevents the mask’s ingredients from evaporating. So, if this sounds amazing, be sure to get your mom, sister, or girlfriend a fabulous set of several sheet masks. You can either create a set on your own or buy one from brands such as Dr. Jart and Sephora. Possibilities are truly infinite with this one!
