The Benefits of Drinking Water for Your Skin

Out of desire for beautiful and lovely skin, people all over the world are turning to concealers, cleansers, makeup and other beauty products, not realizing that the key to glowing skin is within their reach. While a regular skincare routine is important for your skin, it can never substitute the indispensable role of water. Considering the fact that your skin is composed of water like any other part of your body, it goes without saying that drinking enough water is essential for its health.

Maintaining skin moisture
The skin has a protective film called the hydro-lipid layer that consists of water and natural oils and fats. This layer maintains the moisture of the skin by slowing down the evaporation, regulates the pH value of the skin and protects it from damage. However, the moisture level can easily drop due to unfavourable weather conditions, unhealthy habits, such as drinking alcohol, smoking, and poor nutrition. Since dehydration causes your skin to become dry, flaky and tight, it’s important that you drink plenty of water to maintain your skin’s moisture level.

The benefits for your skin
By drinking plenty of water, you’ll provide your skin with the nutrients necessary for its regeneration. Water increases the elasticity of your skin by replenishing the tissue. Consequently, this slows down the aging of your skin, delaying the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Another benefit of drinking enough water is finer and smoother complexion. Hydrating your skin will make it supple and soft, showing better results than the application of various products. By keeping your skin well-hydrated, you will give it a natural and glowing look.

Water offers yet another important benefit for your skin – reduced risk of skin disorders, such as eczema, psoriasis and wrinkles. In addition, water affects your skin indirectly. Namely, drinking plenty of water can help you cleanse your body from all the toxins, boost your metabolic rate and enhance your digestive system, all of which contributes to the health of your skin.
There are several other benefits of water that don’t come from drinking it. A cold shower can help you relax the nerves and soothe your skin. You can also reduce the redness of the skin with cold water, which will lead to a better makeup application. In addition, by soaking your body in cold water for two or three minutes, you can rejuvenate your skin. However, a prolonged exposure to water can also reduce the natural oils of your skin, so don’t spend too much time in the shower.

Healthy habits
Since water bears such an importance for the skin health and general well-being, more and more celebrities are focusing on H20 as one of their main beauty “products”. Among them are Jennifer Aniston, Gabrielle Union and Ellen Pompeo who drink plenty of water every day, looking as young and beautiful as ever. Thus, if you want your own skin to have such a natural, healthy and glowing look, there are several habits and changes that might help you achieve that.

You should drink around two and a half litres of water throughout the day, especially during high temperatures. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty because that’s the sign of dehydration. In addition, you should make sure that your water is toxin-free. While you can keep drinking bottled water, a better, eco-friendly and long-term solution is installing a purifying system at your home. For example, efficient UV home water treatment is a cost-effective option that will ensure that your water is safe and clean. The best way to clean your body form toxins is to drink toxin-free water.

If you’re an active person, you should drink water before, during and after activities to replenish the water you lose through sweat. Additionally, you should avoid alcohol because it can cause dehydration. Drinking plenty of water will ensure that your skin remains healthy, smooth and young-looking. So, say goodbye to all those beauty products and reach out for a glass of water instead.
