GO BENTO - BGC’s Affordable Everyday Japanese Food Restaurant, Is Now Open for Dine In!

I’ve never imagined in my lifetime that I would experience what we are going through these days. If I am to be very truthful, I am one of those skittish diners in this time of pandemic. I am apprehensive to go out and meet up with my friends. But at the same time, I am honest enough to admit I am experiencing some cabin fever, maybe not as evident with others. Would you believe, I only step out of my apartment every two to three weeks? I sometimes don’t even get any sunshine.

So, when a good friend of mine, Gel of  beingjellybeans.com invited me to join her to visit Go Bento in BGC to check out their Safe Dining set up. I jumped right in! It is my first time to venture out of our village in 5 months! I want to see the outside world, how it is now but also taking precautions. Gel and I wore masks of course and I rode on her car’s backseat, which I usually don’t do as I always ride shotgun with her.

Being a foodie and restaurant reviewer for years now, I am very much aware that restaurants are one of the hardest hits; battling for survival amid the coronavirus. And I want to see for myself what they are doing to continue to run and serve their customers in a safe way. Also be able to help them out in my own little ways. Moreover, I miss dining in, in restaurants, after all I’m kinda tired of the home cooked meals I’ve been eating in cycles.

Go Bento is excited to have us to safely dine in again with them! They are promising that we still get to enjoy what they offer while making sure to follow health guidelines for a safer dining experience. These rules are implemented for customers, food delivery servicemen and Go Bento employees. There’s a foot bath before you get inside. You need to write your name and contact details in a logbook on a table together with a hand sanitizer.

Go Bento is also implementing measures to make their customers feel safe by spacing the seating out more and finding ways to minimize human contact, such as digital ordering and payment. Employees are wearing personal protective equipment like masks, gloves and face shields too! Preparing of food too in a sanitary way was taken to another level. We tried some of their old and new dishes which included:

Beef Misono Bento – Beef misono is one of my favorite dishes at Go Bento. It’s one that I order alternatively with their pork or chicken katsudon. I just love the tender meat and sweet sauce of this misono. This comes with rice, miso soup and veggies.

Gyudon – a Japanese dish consisting of a bowl of rice topped with beef and onion simmered in a mildly sweet sauce flavored with dashi, soy sauce and mirin. Another favorite Japanese dish of mine.

Tempura Bento – prawns and and vegetables battered and deep fried and comes with rice, cabbage salad and miso soup.

Hambagu Curry Bento – Japanese hamburger steak with Japanese curry sauce over Japanese rice and topped with sunny side up egg. I love the burger steak, but I’m not really into the curry sauce.

Cali Maki – These sushis are always a crowd favorite. They are makizushi sushi roll that is usually rolled inside-out, and containing cucumber, crab or imitation crab and rolled on fish roe topped with Japanese mayo.

Takoyaki – aka octopus balls, takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack or appetizer made of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special molded pan. Go Bento version is topped with Japanese mayo, Bonito flakes and aosa powdered seaweed. I always enjoy eating takoyakis!

Hambagu Miso Burger – Japanese hamburger with miso mayo and shredded cabbage. A nice alternative to the usual burgers

Chicken Skin Yakitori – Japanese skewers made of chicken skin and then fried. This one is a very unique dish from Go Bento and was very tasty and fun to eat.

Chicken Thigh Yakitori⁣ – Japanese skewers made of chicken thighs and grilled. These chicken skewers are very tender and tasted nice with the addition of that sweet and salty sauce.

It was refreshing to finally go out and dine out – which is something I missed the most pre-pandemic times. All in all, I enjoyed all the food from Go Bento that I got to eat again, and I felt safe as well. It also helped that the staff are well trained for this new normal in our daily lives. I know it’s not good to live in fear and just live a life like a hermit, but at the same time, if you want to go out once in a while, make sure not to be reckless. Do your part to stay safe and keep others safe while trying to enjoy the things that you used to enjoy.

If you’re not comfortable dining out but still want to try Go Bento, fret not, they are open for pick up and delivery using all the major food delivery and TNVS courier services like FoodPanda, Lalafood and Grabfood. And oh, by the way, their new Salcedo Makati branch is also now open for pick up and delivery as well.
