A Wonderland for My Inner Child

Being 20-somethings, we are too young to be considered an adult yet too old to be labelled a kid. It is that awkward stage between fantasy and reality where we’re just kids who are forced to deal with how cruel the world has become. This is especially true in these times when humanity is faced with a lot of uncertainties and dangers brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic.

Being in “quarantine” – whether the strict or the more relaxed one – made me see things in a different light. Before this, we have all lived fast-paced lives. Whether you’re a middle-school student who just had your first crush, a high school student who’s preparing for CATs (college admission tests), a university student who is busy writing your thesis, or a working adult going about your own business – life came to a sudden halt for all of us. However, things never became better. The stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological repercussions are still lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce at any given opportunity.

In these trying times, good coping mechanisms are necessary for de-stressing and relieving our anger, frustrations and helplessness. No matter how we claim to have grown up, there lay this little kid within us who enjoys the simplest of things. It is this kid who could help us get through the toughest times, and what better way to channel our ‘inner child’ than to zone out every once in a while through games?

If you are looking for games which suit your fancy, Plays.org offers a variety which our inner child could enjoy. Just think of a digital photo album which you could easily browse in just a few clicks. If you’re into old games like Zuma, fashion-related games like Y8’s Dress-up, strategic games like Tetris and Pacman or modern games like League of Legends, then this site is for you!

Sorted under different categories, this site offers around a thousand games and it keeps on expanding daily, so as to cater various ‘players’. I am not much of a gamer, myself, but I do enjoy fun and exciting games which are easy to navigate. This site has definitely compiled the games that are of my taste.

Tetra Blocks
This first game is inspired by Tetris. It operates on the same concept and theme, and it most definitely shares the same thrill. Like its muse, it is also a fun game that requires strategic thinking in order to clear levels. I truly appreciate this sort-of remake because, through it, I am taken back to my younger years – back when the world seemed considerably better than it is now. Maybe we could learn a lot about strategizing and the importance of level-headedness while playing this game.

The Sorcerer
This second game is inspired by Zuma. Unlike the original game, it doesn’t sport the same quirks – ‘bomb balls’, ‘rewind balls’, and the likes – but it does have the same goal which is to clear all the balls before those reach the ‘portal’. This is such a memorable game for me because I used to play the original one with my mom and my aunts. I just know that if I introduce this game to them, they’ll love it the same. In a way, this game reconnects me to the “good ol’ times” with my family.

Zombie Typing
This third game is my most favorite one from the site. I don’t know the particular game which this originated from, but on a universal scale, it is inspired by those ‘word-typing’ or ‘accuracy-typing’ games which measure your WPM (word-per-minute). I always prided myself with my fast-paced typing, but it is through this game that I realized that I still have a long way to go. Nonetheless, this is probably the most helpful game that I encountered on the site. I could definitely make use of this to further enhance my typing skills.

These three games are the ones which caught my eye the most. Although, I did play other games like Pac-rat, Classic Solitaire, Word Trivia, and a couple more. I truly enjoyed browsing the site. It is most definitely like a wonderland for my inner child. Not only did it brought me games from my childhood, but it also exposed me to a variety of games of different genres. I couldn’t deny that I needed this break – we all do.

Gaming, you see, has a lot of benefits – physical, mental and social – but, more specifically, doing so could help satisfy our ‘inner child’, a part of us that we often neglect. In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, let us not forget that we’re all just kids at heart. Indulge a bit. Live. Don’t lose the kid in you.

  2. One of my dear mentor said it to me many years ago, 'Never lose your childhood. It is the most precious gift you will ever have'. I am grateful for my parents for letting me enjoy my childhood to the fullest possible, which helps me to have a better views in my adult life.
