How Much Does Hair Loss Treatment Cost in Singapore?

Hair loss happens when hair thins out little by little over time because the hair follicles are getting weaker. This is not the same as hair shedding, which is a natural part of how the body works. Some hair falls out every day when you comb or brush your hair, while new ones grow. But the problem starts when we lose more hair than we grow back.

Typically, most people lose between 50 and 100 hairs every day, on average. Anything more can be passed off as hair loss. When you begin to lose so much hair that it becomes visible, it indicates that something is wrong with your hair cycle. Some factors, such as a poor diet, metabolic abnormalities, or illness, can disrupt the hair cycle.

The cycle of hair growth
The hair cycle consists of 3 phases.
Anagen
The phase of active growth is also called the anagen phase. This stage lasts anywhere from 2 to 8 years, and 85–90% of the hair on our heads is made during this time. The cells at the root of the hair divide quickly. As new hairs grow, the old ones are expelled from the follicle.

Catagen
During the catagen phase, hair follicles shrink. 3% of hairs are always in the transient catagen phase. This stage usually lasts 2-4 weeks. The hair root's external sheath shrinks and encloses the hair roots. Hair growth is also halted. It is during this process that club hairs are formed.

Telogen
The telogen phase, also known as the resting period, can last anywhere from two to four months. Following the completion of this stage, the hair will fall out. It accounts for approximately 6–8% of total hair. The hair follicle is dormant during this phase, and the club hair is completed at this point in the process. Every day, anywhere from 25 to 100 telogen hairs will fall out.

Types of hair loss
Androgenic alopecia
This hair loss happens to both men and women, though the pattern is different for each gender. Male pattern baldness is usually shown by bald spots and a receding hairline, while female pattern baldness is usually shown by thinning hair at the crown of the head.

Anagen effluvium
This is excessive hair loss that happens during the early phase of the hair growth cycle (anagen). Anagen effluvium refers to abnormally rapid hair loss. Cancer-fighting drugs or exposure to certain hazardous substances can cause it.

Telogen effluvium
Telogen effluvium is a form of transient hair loss caused by stress, shock, or trauma. The bulk of the time, it happens on top of the scalp. This condition is reversible.

Diagnosis
In addition to looking at your hair, your doctor will ask you about your diet, lifestyle, hair care regimen, medical history, and family history. In some cases, you may need a:
- Blood test
- Scalp biopsy (where your hair roots are looked at under a microscope)
- Light microscopy (to discover any hair shaft issues)
- The pull test (where your hair is pulled out to see how it sheds)

Common Causes of Hair Loss
Gene: There is conclusive evidence that baldness is caused by the AR gene, which is located on the X chromosome. This isn't the only gene that causes one to go bald. In a study that was conducted in 2017 and published in PLOS Genetics, researchers found 287 genetic variations that were connected to male pattern baldness.

Aging: As you grow older, hair cells may not regenerate and follicles stop producing new hairs.

Menopause: Hair grows more slowly and thinly when estrogen and progesterone levels drop. On the other hand, a drop in these hormones stimulates the production of androgens. Androgens decrease hair follicles, causing baldness.

Skin diseases: Alopecia areata is a form of autoimmune skin disease that can affect both the scalp and the body, resulting in hair loss.

Dieting: Weight loss can cause temporary hair loss, which can be caused by dieting or surgery.

Treatment and pricing
Therapies can stop or slow hair loss. In some situations, like alopecia areata, hair may grow back on its own within a year. Hair loss treatments include medicines and surgery.

Medication
If a sickness causes your hair loss, you should treat it. Treating the underlying cause may increase hair growth. If a drug causes hair loss, your doctor may recommend stopping it for a while. Medicines can treat pattern (hereditary) baldness. Common options include:

Minoxidil (Rogaine)
Many people use minoxidil-based products to regenerate their hair, slow down hair loss, or do both. At least six months of treatment will be required to stop hair loss and encourage hair growth. You may not know if the treatment is working for you for several months. If it's effective, you'll need to continue taking it indefinitely to get the benefits. Side effects include hair growth on other body parts like the cheek, scalp irritation, and a rapid heart rate. Each box costs $69.92 if purchased through Noah and Zoey.

Finasteride (Propecia)
This is a prescription medication for guys that should be used every day to get the desired result. When men take finasteride, they often see less hair loss and sometimes even new hair growth. Finasteride may not work as well if you are over 60. Some of its side effects may include less desire to have sex and a higher risk of getting prostate cancer. It works best on scalp locations other than the temples. Each box costs $69,92 if purchased through Noah and Zoey.

Grow supplement
This is a supplement containing numerous important hair minerals. This supplement contains various vitamins, including biotin, as well as vitamins A, E, B12, folic acid, and D3. This is a powerful supplement that will enhance your nails, skin, and overall wellness. For as low as $34, you can get a bottle of Grow.

Hair transplant surgery
In a hair transplant, hair follicles from the back and sides of your head are moved to the top and front of your head. In the first three months, the transplanted hairs fall out, but in the third month, they start to grow back. The best results are seen 18 months later. That might seem a long time, but it is worth the wait. This is a long-term solution that, if done right, may put a stop to hair loss. And that's why it's a little bit pricey. The price ranges from $8,000 to $20,000, depending on how many hair grafts are done, which the doctor determines. The average hair transplant uses about 2,000 grafts. There could be bleeding, bruising, swelling, and even an infection. You may need more than one surgery to get what you want.

Laser therapy
According to a small number of studies, laser therapy makes hair thicker. Though more research needs to be done to find out what the long-term benefits are. Laser therapy helps hair grow by sending more blood to the scalp to improve circulation and reduce inflammation on the scalp. This makes the hair that grows back stronger and thicker. But there is a chance of getting bruises from this treatment. Considering that you may need more than one session to see results, it is pricey. Sessions can cost a little less than $200 each or more, depending on which hospital you go to.

Regenera Activa
This treatment can assist hair follicles in growing back, thickening, and multiplying. This solution is then injected into the areas of the scalp where hair loss is occurring, typically by small injections. It is a non-surgical treatment that is safer than Minoxidil and effective for moderate to severe hair loss. This procedure could cost up to $4,000 per session.

Bio Signal PDRN Follicle Therapy
This method does not involve any invasive surgery and is effective. Your hair's texture and development can be improved by bio signals delivered to the DNA in your scalp. The price of this procedure could range anywhere from $350 to $400.

Conclusion
Bald spots that are round or patchy, sudden hair loss, hair loss all over the body, and scaly patches that spread over the scalp are all signs that you may be losing your hair. With hair loss, waiting is a bad idea. To get the most out of any treatment for hair loss your doctor might suggest, it's best to start right away.
