Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers from Sample Room

I know for sure that most of you are already familiar with Burt’s Bees Lip Balms;  it doesn't need any elaborate introduction at all I guess. I've known Burt's Bees since college, but being a little bit stingy and depending only on my school allowance, I didn’t attempt to buy one back then; not to mention it is only sold in Beauty Bar and PX Goods Shops. Fortunately, I have friends who occasionally come home to the Philippines from the US and they usually give me one or two.

It's been one of my favorite lip balms of all time and one of the products in the market that really delivers what it promises. No wonder thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands of girls all over the world rely on Burt’s Bees Lip Balms to keep their lips smooth, moisturized and healthy-looking.

A few weeks ago, I kept seeing teaser photos from Sample Room, and I knew that it’s Burt’s Bees samples they’re giving away soon. I had no idea though what specific products but what I’m sure about is that I must be able to get a sample if it’s really Burt’s Bees that their sampling out next.

So when they finally announced it on Facebook, I hurriedly went to their website and availed of the Burt’s Bees Samples. They were giving out Lip Shimmers in 5 different shades. I am not aware that Burt’s Bees have these types of lip balms, I am used to the regular balms with flavors, but this is something new to me so I made sure I’ll be able to get all 5 shades (even if it means availing 2 shipping transactions).

A few more days later I received one large XEND pack that contains 2 mini Sample Room packets and inside them are the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers, yes all 5 of them! Ok I know you might think why did I get that many samples. Well, for one, I would love to try them all. Second, it’s about 2-month long supply of lip balm and third, those lip shimmers costs Php 395 (around US$ 9.5) each when bought in Beauty Bar and a little cheaper with online sellers. Since I paid for the shipping, it seemed like I got 5 shades of these lip shimmers  (in full sizes, fyi) for Php 200 and that’s because I paid for 2 shipping packets. That’s what is awesome about being a Sample Room member, you get to enjoy beauty and lifestyle products with almost no cost at all.

Let’s now move on to the products. I’m not sure when the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers were launched but for sure it’s the first time I’ve heard about them. The Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers are still your 100%-all-natural lip balms, packed with Vitamin E, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Sunflower oils, Coconut Oils, and other fruit oils, but with an added kiss of color and pearlized shine.

The lip shimmers are actually tinted lip balms and they come in thinner but longer tubes, which I think is pretty neat because you can tuck it inside the smallest purse you can imagine, thus you can bring it anywhere and touch-ups will always be a breeze. The only thing that I’m not loving about its packaging is that when you twist it up, and try to wind it back down, the balm doesn’t go back! So you need to be extra careful not to nick the balm stick when re-capping the tube. I’ve learned it the hard way, so the next time I tried using it, I twisted just enough for the amount that I needed to apply.

lip shimmer vs original lip balm

I’m not sure how many shades are available in the market, but what are available and what I availed from Sample Room are: Rhubarb, Raisin, Watermelon, Caramel  and  Fig .

Some say that the colors are kinda sheer, but for me it’s pigmentation is good for a lip balm. The colors are buildable so when you apply it a couple times more, it almost covers up you natural lip color, which I think, makes Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers candidates for substituting lipsticks. Especially on days when you don’t like to go through your entire make up routine. One or two swipes of these lip shimmers will immediately put some color on your face and you will definitely look natural and effortless. For those who doesn’t like or have no time to put make up on, this will be a perfect go-to make up product for you. But the staying power of the color lasts for 1-2 hours only (based on my experience) until it needs a touch up.

watermelon, raisin, caramel, rhubarb, fig

Rhubarb, Raisin and Fig are the darkest and in the brown/red shades, the watermelon is red-ish/pink-ish color and caramel, well it looks like the color of caramel brownish/nude color. Caramel is my favorite among the 5 shades that I got, it’s super wearable for everyday. Although the remaining 4 shades, since they are pinkish/reddish color, I think using it with your red, plum or dark pink lipstick shades would really make the colors pop. I tried the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Raisin and Rhubarb over and under my MAC Ruby Woo and the outcome looked pretty a-ma-zing, the color was super intensified! Ruby Woo is matte, but since my lips are (most of the time) dry which leaves me with prominent creases, I use balms first before applying lipstick and it definitely helps.

These lip shimmers are flavored with Peppermint, they smell [and probably taste] minty. They give a very nice cooling and tingling effect on the lips which will remind you of lip plumping balms/glosses if ever you’ve already tried one of those. But this only lasts for a couple of minutes and doesn’t really makes your lips any plumper.

I super love that it’s not sticky or waxy just enough to moisturize and sooth, especially, my always chapped lips. Since I have it in 5 shades, I’m alternating the use of each everyday, so that no color will be left unused. I am totally loving these Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer samples that I got from Sample Room. Thank heavens for Sample Room, yeah?! Hands down to Burt’s Bees for being super effective, no questions asked.
