The fast changing fashion trends have yet again managed to overwhelm us with various extremes. The recent answer to similar situation was norm core (normal + hardcore). Today, the attitude of finding your liberty in wearing “nothing special” has been pushed aside by a rising star of fashion fads – “heritage core”.
In a world where “normcore” represents minimalism, heritage core is a true reflection of aristocracy and power. So, step aside baseball hats, mom jeans and white kicks – a new trend is conquering the world, and it means business. Let us see why heritage core gets to sit on the fashionista’s throne.
Classic + Authenticity + Quality
Heritage core is all about classical cuts embracing and celebrating both men’s and women’s figure. Because of that, there is no way it will become obsolete as its predecessor norm core. Au contraire, this core is here to stay and it will be especially wearable during the fall, the end of winter and beginning of spring. The heritage clothes are unavoidably authentic. Unlike norm core, which built its popularity on blending within the crowd, this trend is creating fashion elite with all members seeking their own personal identity within it. Some of the most famous heritage core brands are Burberry, Land's End and Barbour, which speaks a lot about the quality of the clothes.
Unavoidable Pieces
Just as any fashion trend, heritage core has its own signature pieces. Because it is inspired by riding and hunting gear for ladies and gentlemen from the high society, this way of dressing requires a fine pair of knee-high leather boots. As spotted on Kate Middleton herself (and on many other stylish ladies), plaid is the hot pattern of the year. It looks perfect on coats, blazers, shirts, skirts and scarves. A tweed jacket is there to elevate every outfit to the level of aristocrat on a picnic, while a nice striped sweater will add some coziness to the picture.
Upgrading Your Heritage Core
Just as norm core, heritage core is more about the attitude than about the clothes. Here, you need to find your own expression and the perfect measure to create harmony between your personal style and the fashion trend. An elegant lady could, for instance, complement her riding boots and fitting coat with unavoidable Swarovski crystals, while a fashion-risk-taker could mix patterns (plaid + stripes) and top all that with a fedora hat.
The Colors of Heritage
This style also stands out from the crowd with its choice of colors. Not every color can be a heritage one – pink for instance is out of the question. The ultimate rule about choosing the colors is – refines. Most of the shades are warm fall colors, but you can go further if you think they fit in the general picture. When you are choosing, just ask yourself one question: “Would a duchess wear this to a hunting party”. Some of the most popular options are all shades of brown, beige, olive green, burgundy, black, grey and red.
The Time and Place for Heritage
Depending on how you choose to wear it and what kind of clothing pieces you decide to combine heritage core can be worn, well, anyplace, anywhere, anytime – from a day at work to a fancy dinner. If you are wearing it for the office, tone down the look by avoiding knee-high boots. In that case, a tweed vest will be enough. For a dinner in a restaurant, you can choose a fitted plaid dress, while a day in a park can be enjoyed in a pair of light blue jeans, striped sweater and knee-high boots.
This is not deleting the trends that were before. On the contrary, heritage core is a natural evolution from norm core’s laissez-faire attitude to je-ne-sais-qui casual refines. So, what do you say, will you become a member of the fashion elite any time soon?

Heritage core is what I think of when I think of Prep kind of style. Nice nonetheless.
