Whats New With Frank x Dean?

If you have been to BGC, or working or living around that area, I’m pretty sure you have heard about this café called Frank and Dean. I know Frank and Dean and have been there a couple of times, but I remember it as a hipster-ish all-day breakfast store featuring Southwestern USA dishes plus their speakeasy hidden behind one of its doors. I’ve even blogged about it back in 2016: Frank x Dean: Coffee, Chicken, Pizza and Speakeasy.

Today, it has moved from its long home to its newest residence at Net Plaza on 31st Street but still in BGC. It’s still in our neighborhood (I call it my neighborhood too because I’ve been working in BGC since 2015), but with a revamped breath of fresh air look, sized down menu and focusing majorly on coffee.

You can find Frank x Dean at the ground floor of the Net Plaza Building, at the farthest space, at the side near the rotunda where all the BGC buses are parked when they are not in use. Inside the store, is an airy, relaxing space with high ceiling, minimalist interior design with monochromes tones. It’s a space where you can just chill and enjoy coffee and good food, and if you’re doing remote work, it’s also a place you could consider if you’re in this area.

Frank x Dean was born out of love for coffee – one of the simple joys in our lives. It aims to add a little bit of joy to the community’s lives one cup of coffee at a time. Their coffee is a mix of Arabica coffee beans from Bukidnon, Brazil and Ethiopia. We got to try some of their best-selling coffee blends which includes:

Long Black Coffee

Salted Cream Latte –

Sweet American Dream

Iced Mocha

 Cold Drip Coffee –

If I have to pick favorites among the coffee variants that we tried, I would go for the Salted Cream Latte and the Iced Mocha. Both were aromatic and had a nice flavor that stays on one’s taste buds. I must say though that I find all their coffee drinks quite strong – something that I enjoy since I like my coffee strong and can keep me alert and awake all through out the day.

Besides their coffee, they also offer rice and pasta bowls, a variety of breads and pastries (both savory and sweet). I like their bowl meals because not only that they taste great (looks simple, but packed with whole lots of flavor), they are also of quite big servings. Me and my foodie friends can’t even finish one bowl without sharing.

Pesto Chicken Pasta – Spaghetti Pasta, Pesto Sauce, Cut Up Chicken breast

Bacon Breakfast Bowl – Fried Rice, 2 Scrambled Egg, Bacon Chunks

Chicken Jambalaya – Jambalaya Rice, Cut up Chicken Breast, Romaine Lettuce, FxD Pesto Cream Sauce

Chef’s Carbonara – Spaghetti Pasta, Bechamel, Bacon bits, Parmesan

Banana Bread – classic banana bread that is perfectly sweet, moist, and full of flavor

Nutella Puffs – puff pastry filled with Nutella

Among the food that we tried, I personally took a liking towards the Pesto Chicken Pasta, Chicken Jambalaya and Nutella Puffs. The Chicken Pesto Pasta was such a simple dish, but super flavorful and cooked heartily. The Chicken Jambalaya, on the other hand, is just a collection of flavors that seems  new and familiar. I also liked that it has this Mediterranean taste to it, the curry or turmeric perhaps? As for the Nutella Puffs, simple: Nutella and puff pastry – nuf’ said.

By the way, if you want to learn more about coffee and how to become a barista, Fran x Dean is open for internships and part-timers. If you’re interested with that, you can contact them via the information I’ve written down below.
