Mad for Wagyu at HEAT EDSA Shangri-La Hotel

I love buffets and I bet a lot of you do too! How one can say no to unlimited food with little cost? And a themed buffet? Count me in! Especially if the theme is all about Wagyu Beef!!! HEAT Restaurant at the EDSA Shangri-La has a buffet night revolving around premium Wagyu beef called Mad for Wagyu which happens every Saturday night.

Before anything else, Wagyu is any of four Japanese breeds of beef cattle, the most desired of which is genetically predisposed to intense marbling and to producing a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat. The meat from such Wagyu cattle is known for its quality, and commands a high price. In several areas of Japan, Wagyu beef is shipped carrying area names. Some examples are Matsusaka beef, Kobe beef, Yonezawa beef, Mishima beef, Ōmi beef and Sanda beef.*

I was luckily invited to sample all the dishes for HEAT's Mad For Wagyu night one Saturday. And yes, I went all ga-ga about it and ate to my heart's content. So much for my goal to have a beach-ready body this summer... There I said it...  Anyway, it's not my first time at EDSA Shangri-La but it was my first time to try HEAT. Being a first class hotel chain that is famous not only for its accommodation, amenities and restaurants, well I expected nothing but the best and it did not disappoint.

Since it is a buffet restaurant inside a 5 star hotel, you can expect nothing but modern and beautiful interiors, but definitely looks like any other buffet places full of long tables and comfy dining areas. The restaurant has a seating capacity of 426 people and boasts two outdoor patios that offer garden and pool views. They also have exclusive rooms if guests come in a big group and want a little more intimate dinner. The four private rooms for exclusive groups are named after weather gauges: Celsius, Kelvin, Rankine and Fahrenheit.

Of course, I tried all the signature Wagyu dishes first before moving on to the other regulars on the buffet stations. Just like other buffet restos the dishes are categorized by cuisines. Dishes with beef ingredients are replaced by premium Wagyu meats. Aside from those, Signature dishes made by HEAT's top chefs are also exhibited.

Must try are: I mean, hello, Wagyu pork buns, coffee spare ribs, nilagang baka, calderetang baka, yakitori, burger and shawarma (to name a few) using Wagyu beef! Man, pure nirvana! It can't get any better than that. The beef were tender and tasty. My gosh, you don’t even need to use a knife to slice them into pieces.

My favorites would have to include curried Wagyu beef laksa dumpling in spiced coconut broth (the broth was ah-ma-zing and the cubed beef were super soft), Wagyu beef cheek cannelloni with Mascarpone, Wagyu tenderloin Wellington, Wagyu beef carpaccio and of course the stars of any buffet: Wagyu prime ribs and Roasted Wagyu Beef Leg.

There several sauces and condiment available for you to add to your grilled Wagyu beef but I opted for what is beside where these were displayed, and just put a little so I can savour the meat as it is.

Mainstays include seafood: fish, mussels, crabs, shrimps and lobsters! Btw, every Friday night at HEAT is themed Mad For Lobster with the same concept as that of Mad For Wagyu. I didn’t try the seafood though since I started with so many meats I was already full to the brim.

But neutralized my palate, I went to get some salmon sashimi and different types of cheese.  This is why I love buffets because I can pig out on salmon sashimi and cheese!

And my favorite part of all, the desserts! Local and international desserts were available but I went mostly for the cakes, pastries and ice cream. I love the banana something, choco lava cake and the walnut ice cream. My sweet tooth was definitely satisfied.

The menu and signature dishes are ever-changing and in each category, every head chef for a particular cuisine regularly concocts something new. Did I feel guilty after being such a vicious predator eating that much meat? Nah-ah! Not one bit! Hahaha!

If you're one carnivore waiting to satisfy your meat cravings, HEAT'S Mad for Wagyu is definitely a must-try for you. Check out HEAT for more info and prices. I've written their contact details down below.
