Take Your Dining to New Heights at Firefly Roofdeck - City Garden Grand Hotel

If you have been a regular reader or visitor of my blog or other social media, by now, you have an idea that I am someone who loves roof deck or roof top restaurants and/or bars. Whether or not the fickle Manila weather allows, my fondness of alfresco dining and drinking has taken me to a higher level of fun by seeking out the Metro’s best rooftop places. Places where solitude and calming breezes offer me a break from the noise of the real world down below.

In Poblacion, Makati, there’s a couple of rooftop restobars you can hang out at. I don’t know for sure if you’ve heard about Firefly Roofdeck. Well, Esquire Magazine Philippines included it as one of Manila's 7 Coolest Roof-Deck Bars. And I couldn’t see any reason why they shouldn’t include Firefly in that list.

A few of my blogger friends have been there before during a foodie meet up which I didn’t get to attend. But most of them rave about the location and the food. Well, I can’t just believe hearsays right? So I have to see and experience it for myself. Fortunately, during my Staycation at City Garden Grand Hotel with my two friends, we got to visit and try what they have to offer.

Firefly Roofdeck is one of the three in house restaurants of City Garden Grand Hotel. This hotel’s 32nd floor perch offers a beautifully distracting vantage point from which to gaze down upon the busy streets below. Firefly will elevate your average al fresco dining experience by making your way up to this rooftop resto-bar. It’s very spacious and occupies almost 3/4 of the entire floor area. There’s also so many seating areas you can choose from where you can dine while admiring the exceptional city views of the neighboring Makati areas.

It was drizzling that weekend and the winds were a bit strong that time but that didn’t deter us from enjoying items from their extensive menu:

Mejillones Gratinados - imported mussels drenched in garlic butter, topped and baked with creamy cheese. I've always loved baked mussels with cheese and I loved these ones as well. The cheese was generous with sprinkles of paprika for added flavor of smokiness. The sizes of the mussels are also average, not too small to not enjoy each bite and not too big to be overwhelming.

Cerveza Pescaito Frito - or otherwise known as beer battered fish. These are deep fried Mahi Mahi with home-made Potato Chips, served with tartar sauce. I like that it is not oily and the coating was light and crispy. The fish was also really moist which is good.

Nachos A La Queen - crispy nachos with chili con carne, shredded lettuce, salsa, jalapeno, and cheese sauce. These crisp colorful tortilla chips was super fun to eat. The toppings are generous especially the cheese! This was very satiating and stays true to its Tex-Mex flavor. I had too much of this actually, even until the end of the night and the chips were already soggy. I didn't care because it was too darn good!

Pollo Palomitas En Parilla - fried chicken popcorn tossed in BBQ sauce and chilies. This was a recommendation by Harris, one of the Firefly staff who assisted us and it did not disappoint. These chicken pieces are loaded with tons of sauce, crispy and with that just right spiciness for an extra kick.

Frutti Di Mare - spaghetti noodles tossed in Pomodoro, fresh seafood and served with garlic bread. What’s not to love from a multi-seafood pasta dish? This savory pasta surely satisfied and woke up my taste buds. Loved the good play of tangy and sweet tomato sauce with the upfront flavor of the sea.

Watermelon Fruit Shake - this was my drink and as always the watermelon was super refreshing. Ripe Mango Fruit Shake - this was Princess’ drink and it’s sweet and refreshing as well. Iced Café Latte - this was Bettina’s drink. It was bitter and sweet and was a good way to perk her up as she was not feeling that well that afternoon.

At night the place transforms into an urban oasis, whether you come post-work or for some weekend fun. It was jam-packed on a Saturday night as Firefly was also offering their Euro-Asian buffet for customers. Btw, you can go to Firefly as walk-in guests but as always calling for reservations is a good move.

I must not forget to mention the chefs, staff and the supervisor of Firefly for a great service! They were very accommodating, informative, friendly and helpful. Shout out to Sir Jay (supervisor) and Sir Harris (our server). Sir Harris was super helpful by suggesting what we should order and being attentive to our needs while dining at Firefly. 5 stars for the stellar service! As for the price points, they are surprisingly reasonable for a hotel restaurant.

Looking for a place where you can show off Makati City’s most dynamic neighborhood to an outsider, take them to Firefly Roofdeck.  Snag a seat at this rooftop restobar with dazzling views of the city. You might also try to arrive by sunset, when Makati’s iconic buildings are backlit with sorbet hues of the sunset. This is where you want to be ordering delicious meals, shareable munchies and array of drinks.
