What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you somebody asks you what are your top 3 favorite fruits? For me, my top 3 favorite fruits are mango, strawberry and watermelon. Anything with these fruits, I will definitely eat. Speaking of strawberries, I like everything strawberry flavored stuff. Strawberries remind of so many things; it reminds me of summer time, it reminds me of cute stuff and I sometimes associate it with something romantic.
So, I was so over the moon when I received something so sweet in the mail a few days ago. My lovely friends at Cara Mia sent over their Limited-Edition Strawberry Shortcake just in time for Valentine’s. Nothing could be more perfect than some sweet treats sent to your doorstep during Happy Hearts Day right?
Cara Mia Cakes & Gelato was formally launched as a separate brand from Amici in May, 2009 with the first outlet opening in Greenhills. Using the same principles that Fr Colombo used to create authentic Italian Gelato, Cara Mia has since expanded its line to many more exciting gelato flavors as well as other gelato-based products and delectable desserts to complement its mix.
Cara Mia was the first to introduce Gelato Cakes in the country. Gelato Cakes, which comprise various gelato flavors fused in with elements like wafers, pie crusts, nuts and toppings to form beautiful cakes are perfect for gift giving and special occasions. There is also the affogato which is gelato “drowned” in with espresso as well as gelato shakes which are various gelato flavors mixed in with milk for a very satisfying and indulgent experience. The refrigerated cake line completes the mix of fabulous desserts that are proudly served in all Cara Mia shops.
Strawberry shortcake is a widely known dessert made with shortcake. Sliced strawberries are mixed with sugar and allowed to sit an hour or so, until the strawberries have surrendered a great deal of their juices. The shortcakes are split and the bottoms are covered with a layer of strawberries, juice, and whipped cream, typically flavored with sugar and vanilla. The top is replaced, and more strawberries and whipped cream are added onto the top. Some convenience versions of shortcake are not made with a shortcake at all, but instead use a base of sponge cake or sometimes a corn muffin.
The first strawberry shortcake recipe appeared in an English cookbook as early as 1588, according to Driscoll's berry growers. By 1850, strawberry shortcake was a well-known biscuit and fruit dessert served hot with butter and sweetened cream. In the United States, strawberry shortcake parties were held as celebrations of the summer fruit harvest. This tradition is upheld in some parts of the United States on June 14, which is Strawberry Shortcake Day. It wasn't until 1910 that French pastry chefs replaced the topping with heavy whipped cream.
OMG I can’t tell you how much I love this cake! It makes me want to sing that Cuppy Cake Strawberry Shortcake song every time I put a piece of this cake inside my mouth! This Strawberry Shortcake is made only with the freshest strawberries! A cake with honest-to-goodness strawberries in whipped cream with layers of light chiffon and topped with a generous amount of fresh strawberry slices. I mean real strawberries in there not just some strawberry flavored filling! The vanilla sponge cake is fluffy, soft and airy, then filled with layers of whipped cream frosting and juicy strawberries. The classic flavors of strawberry shortcake in a rustic, yet elegant layer cake. So good!
