The New Jollibee Breakfast Pies

It’s no surprise that Jollibee is my go-to fast food restaurant. Jollibee is a well-known homegrown brand that is slowly taking the world because of its yummy and hearty dishes that warms the Filipino heart and palate. Not only that, it is also gaining popularity among foreigners here and abroad. I’ve seen videos of foreigners here in the Philippines and abroad (like in New York, Canada and UK) enjoying what Jollibee has to offer. From what I can recall, the first man to fall in line for the opening of Jollibee in Manhattan is a Caucasian male, yep not even a Filipino or a Filipino-American.

Jollibee was founded by Tony Tan and his family with its humble beginnings as an Ice Cream Parlor which later grew into an emerging global brand. Jollibee is the largest fast food chain in the Philippines, with over 1,150 stores nationwide. A dominant market leader in the Philippines, Jollibee enjoys the lion’s share of the local market that is more than all the other multinational brands combined. The company has also embarked on an aggressive international expansion plan in Vietnam, Brunei, Hongkong, Singapore, Macau, Malaysia, US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Jollibee’s growth is due to its delicious menu line-up. I can say I’ve tried and eaten almost all the dishes in Jollibee’s menu, even the seasonal ones. There are dishes that I wish they would make as a mainstay in their menu and some that I wish would just be seasonal or just completely scrap it out of their menu. But what I like about Jollibee is their continuous effort to bring new dishes on the table with the hopes that its loyal customers will enjoy.

Speaking of new items on the menu, I’ve been seeing a lot of my foodie friends posting and trying the NEW Jollibee Breakfast Pies, I guess this is a promotional and seasonal menu additions. Just the other day, on my way home from work I passed by the Jollibee near where I live. I’m like, what the heck, let’s try it once and for all, it’s only PHP 49 per piece. And if I don’t like them, I can just give it to my brothers.

Jollibee’s New Breakfast Pies come in Cheesy Bacon Pie and Cheesy Corned Beef Pie. They are as big as Jollibee’s Tuna Pie and uses the same pie crust that they use for their sweet and savory pies – of which is a bit sweet and I really like the texture and consistency. Off the bat, they smell very inviting probably because of the pie and the cheese in them. So, I took some bite for each and my verdict…

Both were cheesy but the cheese flavor is not super pronounced, it’s mild and creamy. As for the fillings, the Cheesy Bacon Pie, I’m a bit disappointed as it was a letdown. Like some of my foodie friends said, there were more potatoes than the bacon bits. The ratio of potato cubes to bacon is uneven. AN no it isn’t mashed potato inside like others have been posting but a mixture of potato cubes, cheese sauce and bacon bits. I’m serious when I say “unang kagat patatas agad!” No joke. My first bite all I could taste is potatoes and cheese sauce. Took a few more bites and that’s when I found some bacon bits.

As for the Cheesy Corned Beef Pie, my disapproval of the other flavor was somehow redeemed. The Cheesy Corned Beef Pie had more filling in it, so I liked this one better. But I must say that I find the insides of the pie quite hollow. Unlike the Jollibee Tuna Pie that is complete filled with tuna and cheese/cream sauce filling.

Cheesy Corned Beef Pie

If the pie crusts of these Breakfast Pies ain't as good as the ones used with the tuna and peach mango pie, I would be really dismayed. That’s the only redeeming factor of these Breakfast Pies, if I am to be very honest. But at 49 pesos each, what am I to expect right? If you don’t like to eat a full meal, this will do, pang tawid gutom or this can be a snack or a quick bite. So far, it’s ok but not wow. I would still prefer the Tuna Pie over these two. But then again, taste is subjective. Try it, they’re affordable but they’re only available during breakfast ours which is from 5am-10am.
