Brown Café: Another Milk Tea Brand to Try

Thailand is known for many things, the culture, the temples, the beaches and the food. But have you tried their version of milk tea? Even before the craze about milk tea even began, Thai milk tea has been my favorite since I tried it back in college. I love how strong Thai Milk tea and gest more flavorful with the addition of milk in it. Thai Tea is made from strongly brewed black tea, often spiced with ingredients such as star anise, crushed tamarind, cardamom, and occasionally others as well. That is why it’s one of the yummiest milk teas that is existing.

And as the milk tea craze spreads across Asia and the world, Thailand, though they have their own version of it, will not be left out. If you go to Bangkok, you’ll find a lot of milk tea places in malls, streets and tourist spots. And some of the brands from Thailand has also reached the shores of the Philippines. There aren’t many Thai brands since we are proliferated with mostly Taiwanese or HK brands, but one has been inching its way to Filipino milk tea-lovers: Brown Café in Serendra BGC.

Brown Café started in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2017. The local franchisee brought it the brand in the Philippines after trying it from one of his trips. The Thai concept began as a dessert shop before evolving into a café offering milk tea, coffee, and pastries. They now have seven branches in Bangkok, one in Cambodia, and the one in the Philippines, in Bonifacio Global City.

My friends and I went there one time and tried a couple of flavors which includes:

Peach Tea – peach fruit tea drink with rainbow bubble

Anchan Strawberry – latte drink with rainbow bubble. Made with blue tea from the butterfly pea flower which is a caffeine-free herbal tea beverage made from a decoction or infusion of the flower petals or even whole flower with rainbow low calorie bubble

Milk Foam Shake Shake Milk Tea – comes with free brown sugar bubble

Strawberry Marble – low calorie latte drink with rainbow bubble

Brown Café shares a space with Shari Shari Kakigori House in one of the nooks in Serendra and for now, they are only a takeout counter. What separates Brown Café from other mil tea drinks is that they bank on their claim that they offer a healthier drink. They create their pearls/bobba/bubbles in house from scratch and they take pride with their collagen bubble/pearls. This is actually the first of its kind in the Philippines where the bobbas are infused with collagen, which we all know has a lot of health benefits.

I’m not sure though if one of us ordered a drink with that collagen bobba in them. The taste of their milk tea is just ok for me, I would still prefer the strong flavored milk teas especially the Thai Milk Tea. And speaking of that I’m not sure if they have that on their menu. If not, they should add that as an ode to where this brand originated. I liked that Brown Café offers reusable bottle and cups, at least they’re thinking about how to help in reducing the use of single use plastics. I actually brought home the reusable cup where my drink was place. I still want to try the other milk teas from their menu, and hopefully one of these days, I’ll be able to, especially that I work in the same area.
