Explore Beautiful Lakes and Mountains on an Indian Road Trip

India is a very large country with a massive population. Far too many visitors to this area wind up visiting just the major sites and cities instead of really exploring the country. While there is something to be said about cities like Delhi and Mumbai, you can't truly experience Indian culture without getting off the beaten path a bit.

If you find yourself in the northeastern part of the country, there is a perfect road trip that will take you just one day. This trip will take you through the mountains, passing by one of the most beautiful and pristine lakes you will ever see in your life. It may be time to start planning your exciting road trip adventure in the north Indian countryside.

Travel the Road from Gangtok to the Nathu-La Pass
Your magical mountain day trip starts at Gangtok. This town is known for its beautiful views of Mount Kanchenjunga. As a Buddhist cultural center and the capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok is quite different from many other cities in India. You can stay here for a day or two, exploring the local sites and soaking in the culture. There are plenty of delicious restaurants, as well as ends that are happy to accommodate tourists and guests.

Once you head out, you will travel about 24 miles until you reach Tsomgo Lake. Stopping at this lake is the highlight of this trip. The waters are clean and beautiful, and the vistas of the surrounding mountains make for an experience unlike any other place in India. You may find yourself wanting to stay for longer than you planned once you arrive, so budget your time accordingly. The last leg of the trip will take you to Nathu-La Pass, where you will enjoy sites you can only see at one of the highest passes in the Himalayas accessible by vehicle.

Prepare for the Adventure of a Lifetime on Your Indian Road Trip
Given that India is such a large country, taking your wheels on a road trip could be just the beginning of a much larger tour. You should closely examine your budget and your travel plans to see how much flexibility you have. There are many distinct cultural regions across India, each with its own language and cuisine. The more different places across India you can experience, the better you will understand this incredible country and its profound impact on humanities history and future.

Don't fall into the standard tourist trap of just visiting big cities and resorts in India. Exploring some of the more remote areas can lead to some of the most incredible experiences of your life. Don't be afraid to try something new while you are on vacation in India. Planning a road trip from Gangtok to the Nathu-La Pass is a great way to do something that most tourists would never even dream of trying.
