Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Viewing Party by Sky Cable, HBO Asia and Johnnie Walker

We’ve heard the Northerners say “winter is coming” for the last 7 seasons of Game of Thrones and now Winter has finally arrived in Westeros! After two years of waiting after the last episode of season 7, the premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones is at long last here! I know just like me, fans all over the world have waited for this day to come with both eagerness and dread in their hearts. As we all are excited to finally see this epic made-for-TV-movie come to fruition but also wishing it could have lasted longer than season 8.

The wait is over and the “watch has ended” for the fans of the Emmy-winning fantasy series "Game of Thrones" as the much-awaited premiere episode of the final season airs on April 15 (Monday) on HBO and its online streaming service HBO GO. I have been one of the lucky few to get invited to the Exclusive Viewing Party of GOT’s S08 E01 at the Johhny Walker House in Poblacion Makati that was put together by Sky Cable and Sky Broadband; HBO Asia and Johnnie Walker Philippines.

I don’t usually get out of bed at 4:00am in the morning, especially on a Monday; don’t we all hate Mondays anyway? But this Monday is not just any Monday; it is a very special Monday that I’ve been looking forward to since the season 7 concluded in August 27, 2017. It was announced that the MRT3 line will stop operations starting April 15 for the Holy Week and everyone is anticipating one of the horrible Monday morning rush hour traffic, but the old gods were in our favour, and surprisingly, the traffic wasn’t that bad. EDSA was pretty light compared to any usual day.

We arrived at the Johnnie Walker House at around 7:00 am. My friends and fellow die-hard GOT fans and I eagerly wait before the registration started at 8:00am and the show at 9:00am. You can feel everyone was pretty much excited and tensed so we just laughed it out while we drink coffee, eat taho and take photos of the place. And then the 4G String Quartet started practicing the pieces that they will perform before the show starts, and damn, I had goose bumps all over again! I didn’t know what I was feeling by then, I can’t really tell if it was excitement or anxiety hahaha!

Then it was finally time to enter the venue, we settled on the couches in front of a huge TV. Best seats in the house, if you ask me. Let’s just say it was a perk for arriving super early LOL! The Johnnie Walker House (JWH) was transformed into something reminiscent of a place in Westeros. There were banners of the main houses from the Seven Kingdoms hanging on the walls and filled with candles (those electronic ones that resembles like the real deal).

We were treated with a hearty breakfast feast that made me feel as if it was like the one the Starks readied for when King Robert Baratheon visited Winterfell. The dishes were so cleverly named as well, inspired by the Game of Thrones of course!

A little while later, the cosplayers emulating Daenerys Targaryen and the Night King arrived and the 4G String Quartet started playing the themes from GOT’s soundtrack. We did some photo ops with them as we count down the last few minutes for the world premiere of Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1.

And then it started. Everyone was quiet. The opening credits started playing on the screens and most, if not all, of us started gushing over the new opening credits. GOT made a new one for this season showing Westeros as white representing the snow o winter that will envelope the continent. It was freaking awesome!

Of course I won’t give any spoilers, even though I know a lot of people have already watched it by now, but man oh man! The first episode had me geeking out so much and damn, there were so many things and revelations that happened in this first episode. A lot of the questions and theories were somewhat already answered. And this is just the first episode! I mean, what will happen in the next episodes will surely be very epic. Funny how when everyone was anticipating the next scenes when the closing credits suddenly played and the room erupted with screams and howls of both excitement and dismay. Hahahaha! I can’t wait for the next episode to come! Fast forward to Monday please!

After the show, Johnnie Walker raffled off 10 bottles to lucky invitees of their limited edition Game of Thrones White Walker Scotch whisky, inspired by the most enigmatic and feared characters on the hit HBO® show Game of Thrones - the White Walkers. This innovative whisky is best served directly from the freezer, echoing the chilling presence of the White Walkers. This limited edition blend brings you right to the Frozen North with an icy white and blue design along with the iconic Johnnie Walker Striding Man now fashioned in armour to fit in among the ranks of the Night King’s forces. Utilizing temperature-sensitive ink technology, fans will be reminded that “Winter is Here” from an unexpected graphic icy reveal on the bottle when frozen. I didn’t win though, but 3 of my friends did and we couldn’t be any more happier!
