Big D's Smokehouse at Venice Grand Canal Mall

Couple of weeks ago I got to attend the grand launching of Big D's Smokehouse in McKinley Hill’s Venice Grand Canal Mall with members of the press and other bloggers. Though this resto opened months ago. It is owned by Chef Dino Paulo. Hence the Big D brand name. Big D’s has been around the market for some time now and have other branches in Katipunan Extension and Eastwood City.

Big D'S Smokehouse is a southern -inspired restaurant that specializes in classic southern style BBQ. Fore-fronting their menu is Chef Dino’s own spin on the world famous barbecue pork ribs. Using only the finest ingredients, Big D's soft-bone ribs has a sweet and tangy flavor, rubbed and smoked making it distinct from others.

Besides the pica-pica served for this event, we also got to try some of the dishes from their menu like their Nachos, Monster Taco, Ribs Plate and Smoked Beef Brisket.

Stage 1 Ribs Solo - includes 1/4 slab of smoked soft bone ribs, coleslaw, carrots and corn and rice. You can choose between regular or spicy BBQ sauce. I like their coleslaw because it tasted milky unlike the ones I've tried before that tasted too much mayonnaise flavor. The meat was tender and flavorful, but had too much herbs. It would be better if you eat them with the BBQ sauce which is what we did.

Monster Taco - full 9 inches monster goodness with shredded lettuce, cheese and more cheese. You can choose between beef or pulled pork for the meat. It was huge and can feed 2 people.

Smoked Beef Brisket -slow smoked for 12 hours over hardwood and coals to a very tender and flavorful experience. This juicy brisket is an explosion of flavor complimented with Alabama white barbeque sauce. The meat is flavorful as well and you actually don't need a knife to cut it into pieces, it is that soft and tender, almost melts in your mouth. This comes with fries and corn on the cob.

Their service was good and the staff are attentive. They also have this enclosed room with a projector and screen for special occasions, parties, events (like boxing and basketball game screening perhaps) or for meetings/presentations.

I saw on their menu that they have Old-fashioned American style meatloaf, which I love by the way, I have a reason to go back and try that one out. Highly possible since the resto is just a good 3-5 minute walk from where my office is.
