Cebu 2018 Travel Diary: Oqtagon

I've visited Cebu three times in the past, but for me it was always only just a jump off point to Bohol or Siargao. I would just usually spend a day or day and a half in the Queen City of the South and I was not really able to experience this vibrant city. Cebu is probably the other city state outside of Luzon that is urbanized and equally progressive as Manila.

Although it is a metropolitan area, what I like about Cebu is that destinations where you can enjoy nature is easily within reach. Mountainous areas like in Busay is just a few minutes away from the city, world-class beach resorts in Mactan Island is just an hour away while Bantayan Island, Moalbal (diving site) and Oslob (whale shark watching) are just a few hours away.

So when I had the opportunity to go on a weekend trip to Cebu, even though it was somewhat unplanned and instantaneous I grabbed it in a heartbeat. Getting to travel early on this year excited me, it’s my first trip of the year, yey! Plus this will be the very first time that I'll get to really experience Cebu.

I flew with fellow blogger and friend, Bettina via AirAsia. I went straight from work to the airport and good thing the flight was on time. Upon arrival at the Mactan International Airport there was no waiting time as we were immediately greeted by a staff of Bai Hotel who ushered us to our car service. We went straight to Bai Hotel, which will be our residence for our first night and met up with the other bloggers at the lobby. Bai Hotel is Cebu’s newest hotel and VisMin's biggest hotel to date. Located right in the middle of Cebu City and Mandaue City, around 20-30 minutes from the airport depending on the traffic, and within short distance from ports and leisure & business districts.

Like what I've said earlier, Cebu is a bustling location filled with things to do and places to see for just about any kind of traveler. Would you believe that on our Day 1 we managed to squeeze a lot of activities? One of those activities is to experience the Cebu nightlife/party scene. Since Bai Hotel has an unspoken partnership with Oqtagon Club, guests can visit the club anytime they want to. I am not sure if staying at Bai Hotel will give you the privilege of getting in for free or at discounted door price and VIP table but for sure there is a perk.

Bai Hotel's GM invited us to visit Oqtagon Club as he is friends with owners. So after our great dinner at Cebu's Original Lechon Belly at Parkmall which is just across the hotel. We went back to the lobby and we were picked up by our sweet ride that will take us to Oqtagon. It's just 10 minutes away from the hotel and is located at Meerea High Street, Ouano Avenue, North Reclamation Area, Mandaue City.

Backed by more than ten years of experience in the industry, Oqtagon aims to strengthen Cebu’s image as a nightlife and entertainment destination, not just in the Philippines, but in the world. The club aims for its clienteles to step into a new vibe, a new level and a new excitement that will surely spark desires and lighten up one's nightlife senses.

The club is massive with a dance floor in the middle flocked by VIP areas on both sides. The elevated stage where the DJ is has large LED screens as backdrops. Oqtagon reminded me of Valkyrie BGC. It is state of the art and the party vibe is so alive. It is also an accredited establishment by the Philippine Department of Tourism which is probably why there are a lot of foreigners partying there (mostly Koreans).

Our group got to meet the DJ, had photo ops with him and then we occupied our VIP nook where we celebrated Ruth's of ruthilicious.com birthday with some Jack (Daniels) and Coke. The club is open from Mondays to Sundays, 9:00pm onwards and located. They impose age restriction and dress code. The management also has the right to refuse entry if deemed necessary.

If you're in Cebu and want to experience the nightlife that it has to offer you may want to check Oqtagon out. You can download their app for VIP table reservations.
