Authentic Taiwanese Flavors from Shi Lin - Estancia Mall Capitol Commons

Taiwanese cuisine isn’t so new to the Filipino palate, after all it’s one of the nearest country to the Philippines. I have heard stories that in Batanes, the northernmost part of the Philippines, locals can tune in to radio stations from Taiwan. I’m pretty much sure that some of the local Filipino cuisines are also influenced by Taiwan.

I wish I can fly to Taiwan every time I crave for Taiwanese food, as I enjoyed my visit there as I ate my way through the streets of Taipei. It makes me glad that restaurants serving Taiwanese food is of no shortage in the Philippines. One of those restaurants that serve great Taiwanese food is Shi Lin which is named after one of the famous night/street markets in Taipei.

Shi Lin is an authentic Taiwanese Restaurant which specializes in Dumplings, Buns, and noodles- hand made, fresh every day. Many people, including myself, think that Shi Lin is a franchise from Taiwan but it is actually a home grown brand only that during the conceptualization of this resto that they hired Taiwanese chefs to create a menu that is authentic yet appealing to the Filipino palate.

I visited one of their ten branches across Metro Manila, the one in Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons, Pasig City together with other foodies for a lunch and we tried their best-selling dishes:

Shilin Fried Chicken

Xiao Long Bao

Hakaw

Braised Beef Noodle Soup

Congee with Century Egg and Pork

Stir Fry Broccoli

Sweet and Sour Pork

Fried Rice with Shrimp and Egg

Choco Nutella Dumpling

Shi Lin Milk Tea

The following are my favorites from among all the dishes that we tried: Xiao Long Bao, Hakaw, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Congee with Century Egg and Pork, Fried Rice with Shrimp and Egg, Choco Nutella Dumpling and Shi Lin Milk Tea. Shi Lin’s Xiao Long Bao is one of their dishes that they are very proud of since they say they make it a point it taste authentic and flavorful. Their hakaw’s wrapper are so soft and the shrimp inside tastes really fresh.

We all raved about their Braised Beef Noodle Soup and Congee with Century Egg and Pork because both are super flavorful especially the beef noodle soup. Fried Rice with Shrimp and Egg had this smoky flavor that I like with dishes cooked with a wok. The Choco Nutella Dumpling are super fun to eat and very unique. I love Shi Lin's Milk Tea, it is one of the best milk teas I've ever tasted in my opinion especially that it has a strong tea flavor that I prefer.

It truly was a wonderful lunch and I am happy that for whenever I crave for my Taiwanese food I can always get my fix just by visiting the nearest Shi Lin branches from my place.
