I’ve visited Tagaytay a lot of times already but I haven’t visited or tried out all the restaurants in this area. Just like at Cliffhouse, this compound houses a lot of dining options, but every time I set off there, there’s only one place that we go to. But I’ve always been meaning to try other restaurants here including Fire Lake Grill. And, a few weeks back, I finally got to eat there. Yey!
Fire Lake Grill has been delighting guests since its opening in March of 2005. Located at the Cliffhouse Tagaytay, it is one of the few elegant restaurants one will find amidst the native grills, burger joints and pizzerias prevalent along Aguinaldo Highway. It is a modern, Continental grill that offers an extensive selection of grilled meats and seafood as well as innovative starters, salads, pasta, and of course, desserts.
We were welcomed by the very adorable Chef Paul Huang, who also cooked for us, in his cozy restaurant. Chef Paul is proud of his menu that are carefully chosen and is not something that will overwhelm clients. While the menu is the main attraction, the minimalist interior design, cool lounge music, relaxed table settings, and guest-focused service also contribute to a pleasant and upbeat ambiance.
Australian Strip Sirloin Steak - with Red Wine Shallot Sauce. All grilled meat items are served with vegetables of the day and your choice of a side dish and sauce. One of the very reasons why people dine at Fire Lake are their steaks and I have no objection as to why that is because their steaks are really good! I love how tender this Sirloin steak was and was cooked to a perfect medium rare with full smoky flavor. The serving is also large, in my opinion. The cut also had the perfect combination of meat and fat which made super flavorful.
Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes - this mashed potato was super creamy and thick and the roasted garlic sprinkled on top of it added a forthright flavor to it. It's a bit unusual to see garlic on a mash potato, but maybe this was a way to make it a little bit Filipino. Even without the gravy, this tasted great already.
Malibu Rum-Poached Pineapple Carpaccio - served with pink peppercorn, candied lime peel and homemade coconut ice cream. I love this dessert because it was very unique and had so many flavors and textures in it. Some may find it weird to find peppercorns in desserts but some liquors (like rum) taste good with it. You must eat a piece of each component to get an explosion of flavors in your mouth. This is a must try!
I totally enjoyed this trip to Tagaytay and finally getting to try Fire Lake Grill. I love the food, I love the service, I love the place and I love the view! I look forward to the day that I can visit again and make my next trip up to Tagaytay blissfully rewarding.
