Deja Vu - 80's Night at Coral Lounge, Okada Manila

Okada Manila rules the entertainment scene in Manila and their Coral Lounge does not fall short on such. Coral Lounge is their recently opened resto-entertainment lounge is located right at the heart of Okada’s Grand Casino. You’ll be amazed at the vastness of this place and how colorful and well-executed lights and decor are as they take you to entertainment heights while having a tasty appetizers and probably a few cocktails on hand.

Every Thursday of August, enjoy 80’s nights with a live band performing popular songs from this decade - you wouldn’t even notice that you’re sashaying your way to the dance floor or lip synching (if you’re shy) or singing to the reminiscing songs of your mom and pop. To make the vibe more rad, enjoy retro cocktails at 310 PHP per glass that are as brightly colored and laced with enough liquor to get you to the final workday of the week.

Libations and leisure aren’t the only distractions in this part of this golden city, order up their lip-smacking pica-picas. I had the tokwa’t baboy (fried tofu cubes and pork pieces beautifully laid out on a banana heart shell that’s doused in the familiar soy sauce and vinegar combination with a hint of sweet spiciness to it), chicharon bulaklak (deep fried pork mesentery that’s a heaven on crunchy, salty ruminess in every bite) and the sausages (served in a white soup cup, slices of meaty and delish sausages are sautéed in a little butter, onions and green and red bell peppers).

Too bad carbs aren’t part of the menu yet, but don’t be sad ‘coz you can feast on their complimentary salted potato chips – because they are totally refillable, I mean you’d finish your meal starters, but this snack comes in abundance to the point that counting calories will be a thing of the past. Anyway, what gives?! You’ll burn them easy while you move to the beat of the band and if you’re lucky, they’re come down the stage and keep you company while you groove it out.

If in the event, retro ain’t your thing, don’t fret. Every night, they have live bands that perform different genres. I was just super excited to see how they go about executing an 80’s night gig and I was over the moon because I did not expect to be that entertained. The song choices, the band’s rendition, their energy, the staff’s commendable and warm service, the food all collectively came through for one fantabulous night to relax and enjoy my night away. kudos, Okada!
