Encima Roofdeck Restaurant is a Tex - Mex roofdeck restaurant overlooking the Makati cityscape at City Garden Hotel Makati's top most floor. If you're a regular visitor of any of my social media accounts, you should know by now that I am an avid fan of roof deck restos and bars, something about them entices me a good deal. These kinds of places are your perfect go-to destinations for a night cap, weekend chilling or for a romantic date.
The restaurant was decorated with vintage string bulb lights, Mexican sombreros, green plants and succulents. The area is a bit small and located adjacent to the hotel's pool and can house around 50-70 people. Encima is where you can experience dining al fresco with good Tex-Mex food, drinks and cocktails whilst enjoying the panoramic view of the Makati Skyline.
I’ve been to Encima Roofdeck Restaurant at City Garden Hotel Makati quite a few times already but only just a few weeks ago that I get to eat there during a staycation which I did with my friends. During our first day at the hotel, we went swimming at their roof deck pool in the afternoon and got hungry afterwards. We just went straight to the restaurant still in our swimming attires and just covered with bath robes or swimsuit cover ups.
Only two of us have dined at Encima before and for the rest it was their first time, thus I let Anj choose what to get since she’s been here before too. Given that we’re a group, we ordered several dishes that are good for 2-3 pax per serving and that include the following:
Elotes - Mexican corn on the cob and a classic Mexican street food slathered in a creamy chili-and lime-spiked sauce with cheese. This was my favorite even though it’s just an appetizer. I think I was the one who finished this. I just love the smoky taste and texture of grilled corn with cream and cheese.
Rancho Banquete - deep fried chicken wings tossed in a spicy and tangy sauce, green peppers with cheese in spring roll wrapper, crispy nachos with cheese sauce. Combination of all sorts of pica pica. The chicken wings were on the spicy side but which I can tolerate. The chili dynamite rolls didn’t have much cheese filling inside which was a little let down as it probably melted during the cooking process.
Pizza Mexicana - 12 inch tortilla pizza crust, tomato concasse, cheese, beef, beans, onions, tomatoes, and sour cream. Everyone easily loved this pizza. I loved it because it wasn’t the usual bread crust but they used tortilla instead. This pizza was a delight to eat since not only that it is so colorful, it was also very flavorful. It’s like a huge flat crispy taco.
Gulf of Mexico - crispy deep-fried breaded onion rings, thick cut French fries with cheese sauce, homemade potato chips.
Nachos Suprema - Nachos are a Tex-Mex dish from northern Mexico. These nachos are loaded nacho chips with beef, salsa, black olives, cilantro, spring onion, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, and cheese sauce. This was perfect with the beer that Encima is offering for 3 bottles for PHP 250 during their Happy Hour (4pm to 8pm).
Apple Chimichangga - apples cooked with sugar and cinnamon, wrapped in tortilla flour, deep fried, served with ice cream. I truly enjoyed this dessert! It’s like the huge apple pie that you get from McDo but way way bigger and better tasting! I love that they used tortilla to wrap it up giving it a lot of crisp.
I’ve always had a soft spot and space in my heart and tummy for Mexican food because of how colorful they are and how flavor-packed Encima’s dishes are. Also, I love how the food are plated or presented – very well thought out. All in all with had a great time at Encima and loved their food while we enjoy the Golden Hour from the roofdeck of City Garden Hotel Makati. Moreover I get to share this moment with my good friends.
