Weekend Getaway: Splash Mountain Resort and Hotel - Los Baños, Laguna

Summer may be over, technically and officially, but what is great about living in a country that lies in the tropics is that it is basically 365 days of summer still. Living in the Philippines, Filipinos love to go out for excursions, whether to the beach or to water parks, any time of the year.

Los Banos lies on the northern slopes of the long dormant volcano Mount Makiling and is known among tourists for its hot spring resorts. Because of the town's proximity to Metro Manila, Los Baños' hot spring resorts are frequent weekend or summer getaways for residents of the vast metropolis and tourists from other places in the Philippines and abroad.

A few weeks back I had my last summer hoorah at Splash Mountain Resort in Los Banos Laguna. Splash Mountain Resort and Hotel is a 5-hectare property at the heart of Los Banos and is a popular destination for family outings and their pools cater to all ages complemented with picnic huts, poolsider kiddie slides and giant waterslides for grownups.

Since it’s a big property you can just imagine how many things you can do inside the resort. Let’s start of with the main attractions of the resort which are the pools and slides. There are more than 10 pools inside the property and we got to visit some of them:

Giant Waterslides and Lazy River
These are the main attractions of the resort and adrenaline junkies would enjoy the Typhoon and Hurricane Slides as these are the ones that allow you to slide from a point of 80 feet high and down to the base. The Tornado and the Twister Slides have a unique waterflow that simulates river currents while you ride a huge floatie while you slide down right into the pool.

If you just want to relax and not feeling so adventurous, grab a floatie and just let the current move you around the Lazy River. These slides and pools are only open during summer weekends from 9am to 5pm. By the way, there are cabanas around the resort that you can rent if you’re just going for a day trip. To access the Giant Waterslides you need to pay a certain fee.

Kiddie Pools
There are several kiddie pools inside the resort but I only go to check out the one near the Giant Slides. This one offers activities for kids 3 years and above.

Oasis Pools
Oasis is the more private area inside the hotel and available only for guests who avails of the rooms in this compound. The pools here are also huge with slides too! There’s also a Jacuzzi near the café/restaurant.

Besides their main attractions (pools and giant slides) Splash Mountain Resort also offers relax accommodation with their 3 hotels: Splash Mountain Hotel, Splash Oasis Hotel and Splash Suites Hotel. Some of the rooms even have an indoor Jacuzzi!

Splash Mountain Hotel
The oldest and most affordable hotel in the property with 10 Deluxe Rooms with Jacuzzi Pools, 14 Standard Rooms, 20 Family Rooms and 8 Dormitory rooms (each having twelve single beds). We got to check out the Deluxe room with Jacuzzi and can you believe it only costs around PHP 2500?!

Splash Suites Hotel
The second hotel inside the property which is more upscale than the Splash Mountain Hotel and has 36 elegant rooms. This is where we stayed when we were there and I’m telling you the rooms here are gorgeous. The girls stayed inside a Family Suite Room which has 5 beds, a private toilet and bath and a balcony. The boys on the other hand occupied a large Standard Suite Room with a ceiling to floor glass wall overlooking the garden.

We also checked out their Deluxe Suite with Jacuzzi which is perfect for couples. It’s seriously a very lovely room. Guests who will stay at Splash Suites Hotel have free access to all Splash resort pools and Oasis hotel pools. Moreover, the accommodation also comes with a set breakfast at the Splash Suites Hotel Café.

Splash Oasis Hotel
This is the more luxurious and the newest hotel of the resort complex and has 5 pools and 39 spacious rooms designed for big groups. Some of the rooms here also has an indoor and modern Jacuzzis. You can also find two cafes/restaurants inside the Oasis compound. Oasis guests have free access to all Splash resort pools.

Other Resort Amenities
Not only that Splash Mountain is a place to swim in hot spring water pools but also a venue for different kinds of events. They have a grand ballroom, a pavilion, function rooms that you can avail for small seminars to big events like weddings, birthdays and baptisms. There’s also a Spa inside the resort and a covered sports court.

Dining Options
I noted several cafes inside the resort: Splash Suites Hotel Café, Splash Oasis Hotel Café, Victoria Trellis inside Oasis and Splash Mountain Resort Souvenir Shop (where I spotted they sell some food items in there too.

You can bring and cook your on food inside the resort but there are additional charges for grills and corkage fees for some items. As for us we had our breakfast at the Splash Suites Hotel Café and our lunch was a boodle fight (which you can also request for if you’re visiting, just let the resort know ahead of time).

This visit to Splash Mountain Resort and Hotel is probably my last summer hoorah for 2019. But the good thing is that even during the rainy season, I can always come back or you can go and visit because they have hot spring pools.
